Naming the Alice Files for your Homework Submission
All files that you submit should have your three initials included on the front of the file name.
For this homework mine would look like ERW_HW03_01.a2w and ERW_HW03_02.a2w ,etc.
Name your document file ERW_HW03.doc.
Upload (attach) all of these Alice files (a2w) to your homework submission in the assignment box. Also attach
this template.
This implies that your submission will have 5 files this template and the four Alice (a2w) files.
Include at least two comments in your programs. The comment at the top of the program should include:
252399304.doc
252399304.doc
You have two Major Alice homework assignments. The assignments will require you to use the Alice tool. Please
download it as soon as possible or use it in one of the school labs.
This assignment has a grading form associated with it. Please review the grading form in detail; it shows what is
expected for the assignments.
On the grading form I talk about a superb animation where you have used your ingenuity; this exceeds the standard
requirements of the problem and is the definition of an "A" grade on this assignment. The following paragraphs
describe what I mean by "exceeds requirements".
To me, "exceeds requirements" means adding things that were not formally requested in the problem. For example,
having a fish swim in a circle, and then swim around the island and make a little jump is OK but not really too
interesting.
If the fish were followed by a shark and perhaps some interaction between the two of them happened, based on
some computation or decision based statements , that would be "exceeds requirements". What I would really like
students to do in these problems, is go beyond on the minimums and really get some interesting results from your
Alice work. Look at all the different methods and properties that are available to you the developer in the solution
of these problems - use them; do more than the minimum - show off your talents.
If you feel your solution meets the "exceeds requirements" that I discuss above, please write well thought out
paragraph for each solution describing exactly how your project meets those requirements and what methods you
used to accomplish it (at least 100 words). Please follow the guidelines that there has to be an interaction based
on some computation or decision based statements . Please remember that your spelling, grammar and punctuation
are evaluated as part of the "exceeds requirements" determination.
I really would hope you have some fun with it as well; it is a tool that really can show a lot of neat ideas while still
learning the basics of object-oriented programming.
