ENGLISH B2/ PRESENTATIONS-KEY POINTS

PREPARATION:
Think about presentations you have given or listened to.

What makes a good or a bad presentation?


Is it important to prepare? How should you do that? How did you prepare?

Key stages in preparing a presentation:

TOPIC: choose an interesting topic or you are given a topic by a tutor


GRADING CRITERIA: what elements are assessed in your presentation, what is
expected
RESEARCH: sources of information (the Internet, library, journals), references to
sources should be included in the bibliography (final slide in the presentation)
CHOOSING THE FOCUS OF YOUR TOPIC: do not talk about general things,
choose specific and challenging aspects of your topic
WRITE NOTES: decide the main points will be in your presentation and write notes
to remember them when presenting; however, do not read the entire text of the
presentation
VISUAL AIDS: think about what visuals will help you present your topic successfully

GRADING CRITERIA:
Topic: is it interesting, valuable, challenging?
Clarity: are the main points about the topic clear?
Organization: is it well planned and structured?
Fluency: is it presented easily and effortlessly?
Visuals: are visuals appropriate and do they support the topic adequately?
Language: is grammar and vocabulary at the required level?

Introduction:

Introduce yourself and your topic to the audience. How do you do that?

What is the topic and why have you chosen it?


What is your THESIS what is the research question you are going to answer?
Invite the audience to ask questions at the end of the presentation

MAIN PART:

Introducing main points:


o first main point + supporting argument, examples
o second main point + supporting argument, examples
o third main point + supporting argument, examples

CONCLUSION:

It should clearly state what your presentation has shown


It should be memorable for the audience summarize the main points discussed and
give a final thought to take home
