Dear Sir,
GOVERNMENT BUSINESS
SBI e-TAX AND CORPORATE INTERNET BANKING (CINB)
CAMPAIGN FOR THE PERIOD 01.04.2009 TO 30.06.2009
Traders' e-fortune
Payment of VAT Online
The above mentioned campaign was launched in our Circle to boost the number of CINB accounts
and E-Tax payments vide our e-circular no CirFO /GBD/ 50 of 2008-09 dt 17.01.2009, which was
subsequently adopted by Corporate centre with some modifications and implemented all over the
Country and was re-circulated vide our e-circular no CirFO/GBD/55 of 2008-09 dt 14.02.2009. The
extension of the campaign was aimed to concentrate on total number of INB accounts and number of
e-Tax transactions. Tremendous efforts were put in which resulted in a great success during the
month of March 2009 in e-Tax transactions. The following data regarding Circles performance
received from corporate centre for the month of February and March 2009 will highlight this:

While the circle has recorded a large number of e-Tax transactions during March 2009 period of
the campaign, number of CINB has not increased much. Keeping in view the great benefits of
CINB for Bank as well as Customers, we propose to launch our original campaign for a period of
three months from 01.04.2009 with a special thrust on CINB accounts and number of VAT
transactions.
2. Online payment of various taxes is a very convenient and hassle-free process available to
the taxpayers on 24X7 basis. For the Bank, transaction cost is merely Rs. 0.50 per INB
transaction compared to over the counter transaction, which costs Rs. 45-50 per transaction.
Since agency commission on Government transaction is same (Rs. 45/- per transaction) in all
types of payments, it makes more sense for us to migrate maximum number of taxpayers for epayment of taxes to save man-hours at the branches besides error-free MIS to user
departments.

3.. A major initiative was taken by our Circle in March 2008 when online payment of UP- VAT
was launched and till date no other Bank has this facility. Concerted efforts made to shift
collection through online mode enabled the circle collect Rs. 4000 Crores till March 2009.
However, number of transactions are 4553 and data indicates that only major Oil Companies
and some CAs have preferred to use this facility. However, some positive inclination has, of
late, been observed from Varanasi, Kanpur and Bareilly local customers. Opening of new
accounts of traders has not progressed much even after the data of about 3 lacs prospective
traders was shared with Controllers and branches in April 2008.
4. It may please be appreciated that the Special e-Tax campaign launched from 01.10.2007 to
31.12.2007 helped increase the population of INB users in the Circle from a mere 40,000 to
more than 1 lac. The population of INB customers is now nearly 2 lac+, which, we believe, has
been possible due to a conducive atmosphere created in the Circle after the campaign. This
campaign helped INB reach to remotest part of the Circle. However, as against 2 lac+ INB
Customers, CINB population is a pittance 2798.
5. It is observed that despite all the efforts at various levels to migrate more and more taxpayers
to the Internet Banking by way of Special Publicity Campaigns as also special drives by the
branches; the increase in number of e-Tax transactions in comparison to physical transactions
has not been satisfactory. Like-wise CINB customers figure is also not satisfactory at all. One of
the reasons for non-popularity of this very good product may be lack of initiative and knowledge
gap at operating level staff.

Both the criterion in respect of number of CINB customers and UP-VAT transactions will have to be
achieved.
CINB products (Only Vyaapar or Vistaar) facility may be issued to existing or new
accounts for the purpose of this campaign.
Branches own accounts & transactions will be excluded.
Govt. Business Deptt. Lucknow will supply branch wise data, which will form the basis for
selection. This data would be uploaded to official website of Lucknow Circle at the end of
the campaign period.
The Award will be based on the increase in the number of additional CINB
accounts enabled & activated and number of VAT transactions recorded on-line
during the Campaign period.
To qualify for the Award a position holder has to achieve targets under both
heads viz. enabling & activation of number of CINB accounts as well as number
of VAT on-line transactions during the campaign period.
Customers of branches even those not authorized to conduct Govt. Business can
pay their taxes through SBI e-Tax. All branches are, therefore, eligible to
participate in the Campaign.
Crown winning Branch Managers and support Officials will be honoured in a
befitting manner in region wise functions to be conducted during July/August2009.

9. The branches should identify and prepare lists of all customers falling under the above
categories of tax payers in advance, provide them CINB facility and demonstrate the functioning
of Banks e-Tax facility. Wholehearted and sincere participation of all staff members is the key to
win a Crown for the Branch.
10. Mass customer contact to be the winning strategy for the Campaign. Every Taxpayer to be
identified and contacted. The aim is to cover maximum number of Banks own customers as
well as customers of non-agency banks or agency banks not offering e-tax facilities. Special
posters, hoardings, leaflets etc. highlighting the key benefits of e-Tax facility for specified
categories of tax payers should be displayed in branch premises and other vantage points.
11. A publicity campaign highlighting key benefits of SBI e-Tax and Govt. instructions should be
launched in the press / radio / electronic media coinciding with the period of the Campaign.
