SYNOPSIS:
The module contains a range of basic engineering mathematics including
numbers, functions, linear mathematics, calculus and numerical techniques to
support the engineering modules.
LEARNING STRATEGY:
Concepts and techniques will be introduced in lectures, including adequate
demonstration of solving examples. Tutorial examples will be provided on
which students are expected to make full use of unsupervised time. Difficulties
will be dealt with in tutorial classes

ASSESSMENT STRATEGY:
Formative Assessment:
Formative assessment and feedback will be provided through tutorial sessions.
Assessment tasks/weighting:
1.
Three in-class tests throughout the year , Each of the tests to contribute
a maximum of 10% to the overall module mark (maximum total of 30%).
Tutor reassessment will be available. a,b,c, 30%
The tests are of 40mins duration standard time extended as directed
forany students requiring extra time. These In Class Tests will be held under
the University regulations related to the arrangement and conduct of
coursework.
2.
2-hour examination.
This will be the final stage of assessment.

Assessment criteria:
Each assessment will test all outcomes, looking for basic understanding and
ability to apply the techniques. The tests will enable the students to learn more
effectively by providing feedback immediately after completing each end of
section test. In addition, the continual nature of the tests enables those
students who perform less well in formal examinations to better demonstrate
their learning. The final examination enables students to demonstrate their
overall grasp of the subject matter and its interrelated nature.
Each assessment will be structured so as to assess minimum achievement and
provide grading.
