software as an intermediate step, before upgrading to a version later than 2.6.58.
This release is fully supported by ProVision Element Manager System software version 5.3.1 and
later.

Important Notes
1. As a general rule, when upgrading embedded software:
a. Load the new version of embedded software using the old version of Portal, and then use
the new version of Portal once the upgrade has been completed.
b. When upgrading a link the remote radio should be upgraded first, followed by the local
radio.
2. Contact a Stratex Networks Technical Help Desk for upgrade assistance when upgrading from an
embedded software version prior to 1.0.29.
3. License flash cards loaded with version 1.0.29 embedded software or earlier must be upgraded
using an INU V1 (NCC V1), before they can be used in an INU V2 (NCC V2).
4. When upgrading to embedded software later than 2.6.58, version 2.6.58 must be used as an
intermediate step. All radios must be upgraded successfully to 2.6.58 before upgrading further.
5. Early versions of ProVision 5 incorporate Portal into the ProVision 5 Server software. ProVision
versions 5.1.1 and later do not incorporate Portal in the Windows Server software and users need
to install Portal separately. Install Portal after the Server software and tick the Update Portal on
ProVision Server tick box during the Portal installation. This will link Portal to ProVision 5.
5.
RAC cards and DAC 155oM cards should be configured prior to configuring the DAC AUX card.

Description
81
Embedded
AIS
AIS is not generated at the far end of a circuit under the following
conditions:
- When a local DAC is removed from a INU
- When a local RAC is removed from a INU
- When a line facing loopback is activated
715
Embedded
Plug-in Compatibility
Hardware/software incompatibility alarms are not available for a RAC or
DAC. These alarms are raised if a plug-in with unknown software is
inserted.
902
Embedded
Licensing
A power cycle is required after a new license has been activated. This
allows traffic to be correctly enabled or disabled according to the new
license requirements.
953
Embedded
BER History
Negative BER values may appear in the G.826 History Report. This
happens infrequently.
1607
Embedded
Protection Switching
The switching time specification states 500ms. The average time for the
worst-case configuration is 409ms, the minimum is 190ms and the
maximum is 630ms.
2308
Embedded
DAC ES Performance
The maximum DAC ES throughput is currently 94 Mbps per channel. The
expected throughput is 98 Mbps.
2865
Embedded
OSPF
OSPF does not work correctly when interface IP addressing is used.
3135
Embedded
ATPC
ATPC is not independent for each path of a frequency diversity protected
link. The online remote receiver controls the ATPC.
3218
Embedded
DAC AUX
Auxiliary traffic is not protected in ring configurations.
3712
Embedded
OSPF
The remote radio can no longer be pinged after it has been upgraded from
a non-protected to a frequency diversity configuration. This does not affect
traffic and there are no alarms present.
The workaround is to disable and then re-enable OSPF.
Page 9
3733
Embedded
3736
Embedded
DAC AUX
Loading software over a 64 kbps synchronous link between Auxiliary cards
is unlikely to work first time. 60% of the first load attempts fail.
3738
Embedded
Ring Protection
A traffic affecting software upgrade will interrupt ring traffic for
approximately two minutes. The remote ring node will wrap when new
software is booting and it stays wrapped until the new software is
operational. A workaround procedure is being developed to minimize the
impact on traffic.
747
Portal
Performance
G.826 statistics may be intermittently reset.
775
Portal
Alarms
The DAC alarm page shows 32 tributaries regardless of the capacity.
794
Portal
Software Loading
When commencing a software load the NCCs Software State field initially
displays the message Cannot contact this unit. This behaviour is normal.
803
Portal
Transmit Power
The transmit power range is not limited for different modulations and
capacities.
1200
Portal
Performance
If the radio is reset when performance monitoring is in progress, negative
values are displayed for elapsed seconds and unavailable seconds.
1242
Portal
1322
Portal
Configuration DS1
The hardware does not allow the user to select different encoding options
for individual DS1 tributaries however Portal supports this feature. All DS1
tributaries, within 8xDS1 groups, must be set to the same encoding type.
For example a 16xDS1 DAC may have the first 8xDS1s set to one
encoding type and the second set to another encoding type.
1632
Portal
Software Loading
Portal is unable to upgrade remote radios via a V.24 connection. The
current workaround is to use an Ethernet connection.
2146
Portal
System Summary
The incorrect module warning indicators for the option slot modules are
not automatically displayed in the system summary page. They are
displayed when the page is refreshed.
Page 10
2172
Portal
Protection
If changes to the configuration are not sent to the radio before changing the
protection type, the configuration changes are lost.
2268
Portal
Networking
Portal will not commit configuration changes after an invalid route has been
entered in the Static Routing page. An error message appears telling the
user that the configuration write failed and a No such instance message
persists every time the user tries to write the new configuration, even when
the static route has been corrected.
The recommended workaround is to launch a new Portal session and write
a valid route to the radio.
2419
Portal
2424
Portal
Incorrect IP Address
Portal will lock up if an invalid host address is entered. An example of this
would be: 10.1.10198 instead of 10.1.10.198.
2710
Portal
Auto-version
If the connection between Portal and the radio is interrupted when Autoversion is in progress, the downloaded JAR file will be corrupted and the
user will not be notified of this.
3101
Portal
Event Log
Portal notes fields in the event log may display misleading text. In the
example below, the Ring0 at the start of the notes field is displaying radio
context information, not user defined information.
"Ring0 SECONDARY path wrapped because of TX path failure"
3388
Portal
DAC AUX
An incorrect number of AUX ports may be displayed on the circuits page if
the AUX page is not refreshed following the configuration of a RAC, or DAC
155oM.
3445
Portal
NPC Refresh
The user needs to refresh twice to display the System/Controls NPC screen
after inserting the NPC.
3737
Portal
ODU Initialization
Portal may read incorrect data from the ODU, fail to load the RAC plug-in
page and continually fail to refresh correctly. This will only occur if Portal
connects to the radio during a critical time period when an ODU is
initializing. The critical time period is between 15 and 60 seconds after an
ODU is powered up.
The workaround is to restart Portal.
