from the editor

When I was first diagnosed with breast cancer in late 2013, I was
overwhelmed with information that was thrown my way all at
once.
It would have been great if someone handed me one publication
that included all the resources I would need, but instead I received
them piece-meal and ended up throwing pamphlets, business
cards and books in a box.
Now that I have completed my active cancer treatments, I am
looking to give back and offer my support. I always knew we had
a strong community of breast cancer survivors and supporters,
but I had no idea how to reach them or find out where and when
all these events were happening so I could take part.
I hope you find this resource guide to be helpful. Two things
to remember... One - please feel free to pass it on so others can
support and reach out. Two - please check back often for the
newest version of this guide. As soon as I get information on
events and/or organizations, we will update the guide. The
version number is located on the cover.
If there are organizations or events that should be listed, please
feel free to reach out to me!

Carol Baldwin is a crusader. After being diagnosed in

1990 she was determined to beat breast cancer. Once
she received a clean slate from her doctors, she made
it her goal to help other women that were fighting
against the disease. At the time, early detection of
breast cancer had gained momentum. Carol felt it was
time to move to the next step - to find a cure. That
is why the mission of the Carol M. Baldwin Breast
Cancer Research Fund is to support medical research,
and her slogan is, "Together we will find a cure."

The Central New York affiliate of Susan G. Komen for

the Cures promise is to save lives and end breast cancer
forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care
for all, and energizing science to find the cures.

Some treatments for breast cancer can cause decreased

flexibility and strength, pain and even increase your
risk for lymphedema, a disorder of the lymphatic
system where blockage and swelling occurs. Breast
cancer related lymphedema can appear within a few
days, months or years following cancer treatment. Left
untreated, it can become worse.
Our Lymphedema and Breast Cancer Recovery
Program, supported in part by a grant from the
CNY Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer
Foundation, is unique to St. Josephs and can reduce
your risk for lymphedema following treatment for
breast cancer.
