Headmasters Corner
Before we start for this week, we must congratulate our Year 5/6 Science
Quiz Club team for doing so well in last Fridays competition at Badminton.
The pupils have shown a natural interest for the subject and have obviously
been reading up on one or two facts.
Despite a rather nasty virus sweeping through the school, the children have
continued to work hard with a large number heading down to Clevedon on
Tuesday to take their music exams. Meanwhile, Nursery children have been
busy in their preparations for their end of term productions.
We will shortly be forwarding you details of arrangements for the last day of
term but I would like to remind you that all children from Reception to Year 8 would like to invite you to join them in the
Carol Service which will start at 1.30pm in St Marys Church, Olveston. We also invite you all to Carols around the
Christmas Tree on Sunday 7th December at 4.00pm. The time has been brought forward so that more of our younger
children can join us. This year the event will incorporate the Old Tockingtonians Noggin and Natter with drinks being
served from 4 oclock onwards.
This week saw the last matches of the season for some of our teams. The Under 13 Hockey team performed very well
indeed finishing in second place in the Dean Close Hockey Festival. Back at school the Under 9 Hockey Team drew their
season to an end with a superb 8-2 win over Haberdashers Monmouth School for Girls. On the rugby pitch the Under 11s
concluded their season with a thrilling 17-15 win over Beaudesert, bringing their seasons tally to played 10, won 8 lost 2.
Whilst the Under 13 boys have one more game to play, we congratulate them on a 33-15 win over Beaudesert bringing
their tally to played 7, won 6. The Under 9 boys won one and lost one this week. Their season ended having won five
games in total and having scored an impressive 37 tries in total this term and
conceding 33. Congratulations to you all!
Well done to Year 3 for such an absolutely fantastic assembly this morning.
Antus and Decodus led the class in an assembly entitled Im an Ancient
Greek, get me out of here!. We were treated to bush tucker challenges and
Ellie James being crowned as the new Queen of the Jungle. It was much
better than the real ITV series and we very much hope to see it repeated
next year.
Tomorrow the FOTM will be holding their Christmas Fayre and we hope to
see you all there. This, of course, is just after the Fun Run which you are all
invited to take part in.

French Exchange

Effort Marks Mufti Day

Gildas is a 15 year-old French boy who lives near Bordeaux.

He likes surfing, diving and reading sci-fi books. Gildas is keen
to improve his English. He would like to get in touch with a
British family who could welcome him for two weeks in the
summer. In return, your child could visit Gildas in Beigle and
experience life with a French family for a couple of weeks too.
Gildas' mother (a primary school teacher) is a good friend of
my family. If you are interested, please get in touch with me.
Thank you, Madame Vron.

Congratulations to Suzanne Saelens, Isabelle Preston,

Carmen Rey-Jones, Lou Saelens, Alex Jacobi, Ellie
Parker and Lucy Allan-Jones who all achieved over 50 in
their effort marks.
Beth Pritchard, Ceredig Jones, Anya Constantinescu, Jax
Quinlivan, Jai Patel and Harry Mather improve by five
marks or more.
As a result of their efforts they have all been awarded a
Mufti Day on Friday 5th December.

especially Reception, who have achieved their Stanley swimming awards and look a very promising set of swimmers.
All swimmers from Years 3-8 will receive their termly swim records. This compares their times to the ASA national

Bronze swim times for Under 16 in backstroke! Well done, girls; what an achievement in Year 3!
Please note that there will be NO squad on Tuesday 9th or Thursday 11th December. Well done to all the squad
members who have trained. Some significant improvement has been seen. Special praise goes to Jake Wakeling, Abi
Blackwell, Olivia Campbell, Alex Gooch and Ellie Parker for improved stamina and speed. Well done to all those in the
Junior squad, especially Toby Gaulton and Logan Fitzpatrick, who have made significant time improvements.
