9) Birds - likewise, get some small bird statues. Glue some ribbon to the bottom of them
and tie them on a branch as though they are sitting on it.
10) Pine Cones and Acorns - hang them as natural as you found them, or paint them to
make them sparkle and shine.
11) Punched Tin Moons - reserve your aluminum can tops. Put them on some scrap
wood and poke holes in them with a hammer and a nail to create crescent shapes, or
make a pentacle design on them. Spray paint them silver first if you want them to
shine.
12) Herbal sachets - cut a circle of lace, and fill it with seasonal potpourri or your
favorite seasonal herbs. Gather it, tie it with a ribbon and hang it on the branches.

Homemade Gifts
Posted by Monarch
The holiday season is fast approaching, whether you celebrate Christmas, Yule,
Kwanza, and so the list could go on and on. I have never considered myself crafty (I
don't know how to sew/embroider/crochet/knit; I hate baking; and I don't consider
myself very creative.) Yet, there's something magical and special about a gift that is
homemade.
The women on my husband's side used to make all the other women homemade gifts,
but they got out of the habit due to time restrictions and they thought it was cheaper
to buy something than to make something.
I've been thinking, and I want to make a little something for all the ladies in my
family. Nothing spectacular (see limitations above). One thing I came across when
searching online for ideas is to make lavender sachets to put in your dresser drawers
to freshen your clothes. I think that would make a great stocking stuffer.
To do this, you take organza bags (preferably purple or lavender in color) and buy
bulk lavender. You fill each bag up with lavender, cinch it up with the draw strings
on the bag, and you can even add decorative ribbon.
Or you could buy pink/red organza bags and fill them with rose petals, although rose
petals cost more than lavender does.
I was wondering if anyone has any easy-to-make suggestions for either stocking
stuffers or as a regular gift? Keep in mind, it has to be non-crafty friendly!
Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Any and all suggestions are welcomed.
P.S. My husband knows how to sew very simple things, if that helps any.
Yummy Bathscrubs

This is a fun, simple, and immensely useful little gift. It protects your skin from harsh
wintry winds and dry air, and leaves it so incredibly soft and glowing that you wont
need to apply any extra lotion for days.
Its sold in stores for upwards of $20, and while the ingredients can be pricey
(depending on your taste) it shouldnt run you more than $7 or so a batch. Heres what
you need:
Containers (Glass is best, as the salt wont corrode it. They should have an opening
big enough to put a hand in.)
Sea salt (Get a finer grind, so that it wont be too abrasive on the skin. You can also use
sugar, which has compounds that really exfoliate well, but Ive found it can feel too
sweet and sticky at times.)
Oil (My favorite is almond oil, as its light and not too expensive. You can also use
olive, jojoba, and many others. Grape seed oil is luxurious feeling and great for your
skin, but it can stain lighter-colored towels and such.)
Scents (perfumes, essential oils, etc.)
Fill your container with salt until it is nearly full, then pour your oil over it and keep
adding oil and stirring the mixture until the oil has worked into all of the salt (a
chopstick works great for stirring). When the oil is fully distributed, add your scent(s).
Nearly anything can work.
When using an essential oil, you generally wont need any more than ten drops, so a
little vial of it will make many, many scrubs. You can use just one scent, or mix several
together. Here are a few scent combination ideas:
Energizing
Peppermint (can be irritating, so use only a few drops)
Lavender
Rosemary
Relaxing
Lavender
Chamomile
Lemon balm
Woodland God
Pine
Vetivert
Sandalwood
Moon Goddess
Jasmine
Ylang ylang
Vanilla
Gnomes
Posted by Monarch
European magicians and other mystics considered gnomes the most common and
important elemental spirits of the Earth element.
Male gnomes can be easily identified by their red caps.
There are three categories of manufactured gnomes:
1) Worker gnomes, characterized by their possession of tools such as fishing rods,
shovels, or hammers
2) Lesiure gnomes, characterized by design that emphasizes the gnome relaxing in its
natural environment or most popularly by a gnome smoking a pipe.
3) Culture Gnomes, characterized by possession of a musical instrument
Gnomes kiss by rubbing noses and also use nose rubbing as a greeting equivalent to
human handshaking.
Gnomes have a life expectancy of 400 years.
Gnomes are peaceful creatures whose primary enemies are unkind humans who
destroy the natural environment and trolls.
Gnomes are generally vegetarian and eat foods like nuts, mushrooms, peas, beans,
potatoes, applesauce, fruit, berries, tubers, spices, vegetables, and preserves for
dessert. They like to drinks mead dew made from fermented honey, fermented
raspberries, and spiced gin as a nightcap.
Gnomes love practical jokes and are notable pranksters.
Gnomes are exclusively nocturnal creatures. Although your lawn gnomes may be
outside day in and day out, lawn gnomes are only active at night when they like to
help humans with gardening and farming tasks.
Gnomes are sometimes placed in the rafters of barns to keep an eye on animals and
feed stores. Gnomes bring good luck, and are considered to be the guardian of
animal kind.
8. I am radiating love.
The Sun is coming back; that should be a central theme in your altar. Remember to
put out the representations for each Element, but remember the Sun. Another thing to
think of is that the battle of the Oak and Holly Kings for ruling of the year happens
at this time, and maybe that's something you want to incorporate.
But for the most basic of these, you only need three candles - they could be votives,
tapers or tea lights - a representation of a tree, and some container of water from
which to drink. This is nice and simple, and pretty well within the budget of anyone
around.
CELTIC DRUIDIC YULE ALTAR
Candle, cauldron, holly, water. These should be on your altar in some form, because
they're all a good way to incorporate the season into your Elements representatives.
Remember that holly is poisonous, so if you've youngsters you could make paper
holly. Little statues of men representing each of the fighters involved in the Battle of
the Oak and Holly Kings - children could later on act out the battle with supervision,
to help them understand it better - or conversely just a sprig of oak and one of holly,
are good too.
For the Celts, the gods around this time of year are Brigit and the Dagda. (Lugh, the
god who can do anything, is often thought of as an aspect of Dagda; I tend to pray to
him). So, you should include in your altar a Brigit's Cross or a picture of a bee, both of
whom are symbols of this goddess, as well as a picture of the Sun who is returning.
NORSE DRUIDIC YULE ALTAR
Norse Druids, on the other hand, should have a Harrow with nine candles (one for
each of the Aesir), a horn and blessing bowl, a sprig and a Tree of Life (Yggdrasil very important). If you don't have much room, you could buy a little tree statue or
even just put a Tree of Life pendant on the altar.
Also, since this is a great feast, you might think of putting bits of your feast on the
sides of the altar. There is a Fire and a Well to be put below the Tree, but if you're in
the space constraint and must use a small pendant or statue, you can change that to
have a small Fire and Well representative of the real ones on either side of it.
For a simpler Norse Yule altar, you could just have candles representing each season:
yellow (summer), red (autumn), white (winter), green (spring).
Whichever way you choose to celebrate Yuletide, remember the important thing is
that it's a time of rebirth and renewal for all the traditions. The Winter Solstice is the
first light of the year for many countries - think of the penguins of the Antarctic!
Wherever you are in the world, your addition to its energy at every holiday makes
you that more connected. So your Yule altar decorations are important to pay
attention to.

Tea bags can refreshen your breath. Rinsing with strong brewed tea reduces the
unpleasant smell from the mouth.
Tea bags will help with the sweaty feet. Before going to bed, soak your feet inluke
warm tea for 10-15 minutes, then wipe them with a towel.
Tea bags can effectively absorb unpleasant odors. Tea bags can be used to eliminate
the unpleasant smell of hands after dealing with fish or garlic. Also tea bags can be
used as a deodorizer in the fridge or trash can. Just stick them in there. You can also
stick tea bags with lavender flavor or other herbal tea in the seat covers of your car,
you get a natural air freshener.
If you are allergic to detergents or soaps, tea bags could be used for washing dishes.
It may sound strange, tea truly has cleaning properties. With a few re-brewed tea
bags, you can remove dirt and grease on mirrors, windows, floors, kitchen counter
tops and unpainted wooden furniture. Remember that after cleaning, make sure to
dry the surface, because tea is a good natural dye.
