Operating Instructions

Contactor for capacitor switching

Type: 3TK41 with fuse type resistors.
Three Pre-charge resistors are

included.
Note: Do not remove precharging
resistors, as this may cause the
contacts to be damaged in
switching operations under the load.

Capacitor charging time < 3ms.

Fig. 1

A. Technical Data
i) Main circuit :
The capacitors are precharged via
early-make contacts and integrated
pre-charge resistors before the main
contacts close.This combination
may be used for switching of
capacitor banks for p.f. correction of
single loads or in centralised group
p.f. correction system.

Insulation voltage Ui = 660 VAC

Maximum back-up fuse rating
(type 3NA1) as per IS 13947-4
(IEC 947-4) = 25 A for type 2
co-ordination.

ii) Auxiliary circuit:

Auxiliary contacts available =
1NO+1NC
le AC-15/AC-11 = 3.6 A
at 415 V AC.
le DC-13/DC-11 = 0.48 A
at 220 V DC.
iii) Control circuit:

Control voltage is marked on the

coil.
Note: The voltage to the coil is to
be maintained within allowable
limits.
In case the under voltage to the coil
is applied, it may lead to damage of
pre-charge resistors.

Coil operating range:

As per claimed band for wide
band AC Coils.

Coil consumption at 1.0 Uc,

50Hz.
During closing = 100VA, 0.82pf
When closed = 15VA, 0.29pf

Maximum back-up fuse rating for

control circuit

= 16A
= 6A if relay
contact is in the control circuit.
iv) Internal connection diagram:
Ref. fig. 1 for circuit diagram and
position of terminals.

Warning:

Hazardous Voltage can cause

Electric Shock and burns.
Disconnect Power before proceeding
with any work on this equipment

Avoid operation during under

voltage conditions.
Switch only onto discharged
capacitors.
Manual operation not
permitted for function testing.

The On - Off indication of contactor

is shown by the position indicator.
v) Weight
AC operated app. 490 g.
B. Installation
1. Permitted mounting positions
are as indicated in fig. 2.
2. The unit is suitable for screw
mounting on flat vertical surface
with two M4 screws. Always
use plain and spring washers.
For mounting dimensions refer

Normally the power factor controller

used in APFC panels, has the
provision for adjustable under
