NEYRPIC ED

Electro-hydraulic transducer series

ED series electro-hydraulic transducers regulate oil flows up to

500 dm3/min.
These single-stage electro-hydraulic transducers are available with 3-way or 5-way
configuration and are commonly used to
drive small servomotors to carry out individual wicket gate control in Francis and Pump
turbines and injector and deflector control in
Pelton turbines.

KEY FEATURES

ED series electro-hydraulic transducers have

a single mobile part with a small diameter
spool that is driven by an electromagnet.
The ED series key features are:
Oil flows up to 500 dm3/min
Natural closing tendency
Possibility of hydraulically controlled
closing
Heavy duty equipment
Low maintenance requirements
Long lifetime
Pollution tolerance up to 125 m

DESCRIPTION

ED series electro-hydraulic transducers can

be either:
3-way
Only one output channel is connected
to the servomotor, the other side of the
servomotor is connected to a constant
pressure or spring
5-way
Two output channels are connected to both
sides of the servomotor.
Safe operating of a hydraulic turbine generally
requires closing of the inlet valves in the
event of a malfunction. The mobile part of
the ED electro-hydraulic transducer is driven
in one direction by the electromagnet and
in the opposite direction by a return spring.
As a result and if there is a coil control voltage
failure, the spool is pushed to its closing end-

stop by the return spring. Closing can also be

hydraulically controlled.
ED electro-hydraulic transducers only require
filtration levels of 125 m, compared to a
restrictive 5 to 10 m for other similar products available on the market. This helps
to reduce maintenance operations and to
increase plant reliability when oil quality
has deteriorated, something that frequently
occurs in hydropower plants.

RANGE

There are five standard electro-hydraulic

transducers in the NEYRPIC ED series:
ED12 SE (spool diameter: 12 mm, 3-way)
ED12 DE (spool diameter: 12 mm, 5-way)
ED25 SE (spool diameter: 25 mm, 3-way)
ED25 DE (spool diameter: 25 mm, 5-way)
ED35 DE (spool diameter: 35 mm, 5-way)

MAINTENANCE

The electro-hydraulic transducer is a key

hydraulic part in the turbine speed governing
system. Its availability must be guaranteed
at all times during the lifetime of the power
plant. In reply to this, Alstom Hydro prioritised decisive features requested by customers such as reliability and the need for
heavy duty equipment when developing the
ED series.
Alstom Hydro electro-hydraulic transducers
are therefore characterised by their long
lifetime and ver y limited maintenance
requirements. For example, the Alstom Hydro
electro-hydraulic transducer maintenance
manual only recommends a preliminar y
technical check of the electro-hydraulic transducer after 100,000 operating hours.

speed governors, from the former NEYRPIC
MICROPID right through to the most recent
NEYRPIC T.SLG range. This is a key advantage particularly for refurbishment projects
as it only necessitates replacing the electronic
part of the T.SLG while keeping all the hydraulic
parts (valves and other hydraulic devices).
