Chapter 10 LAB

LAB 10.1
1. Was windows able to find and install the driver from your new device automatically? If not what steps
you follow?
To install the correct driver, Windows first checks on "Windows Update" for the required driver. If it
finds a correct driver, it automatically installs the driver. If Windows doesn't find the required driver on
Windows Update, it checks the driver in your local hard disk or asks you to select the correct driver files.

2. What other devices embedded on the sound card might? Windows detect after the sound card
installation is finished?
Answers may vary. Possible answers are MIDI devices, Game Port, and SB16 Emulation. 4.

3. Why might you wish to mute the windows sounds but not mute speaker?
If you want to use Skype or listen to music or play a game for example. I like to mute Windows sounds
from the control panel so that while I listen to music streamed from my computer I can use the
computer and not have to listen to distraction computer noises.

4. Why might someone need to remove and then reinstall the drivers for his or her sound card?
To make sure the sound works or to install a new one.

5. Why might someone choose to disable an embedded sound card device and then add a sound card
install?
Before you install a sound card in a system with embedded sound, disable the embedded sound adapter
either in CMOS Setup or by changing a jumper on the motherboard (or both). Every motherboard we
know that includes embedded PCI sound allows you to disable sound in BIOS. Enabling or disabling
sound usually has no effect on interrupts because embedded PCI sound uses one or two shareable PCI
interrupts. Older motherboards, however, may have embedded ISA sound adapters, which may use
fixed ISA interrupts. Such motherboards may or may not allow sound to be disabled and the interrupt
made available for other adapters. If it is possible to disable the interrupt, doing so usually requires
removing a physical jumper on the motherboard.

LAB 10.2
1. Typically via what types of port do PC cameras attach to a system?
They attach via USB port.

2. Do you have to power down the system before connecting a USB camera? Why or why not?
There is no need to power down unless the documentation specifies doing so. Usually, USB devices do
not require shutting down a system when they are connected or disconnected.

3. What kinds of media file can Windows movie maker import?

Video files

.asf, .avi, .m1v, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpe, .mpeg, .mpg, .mpv2, .wm, and .wmv

Audio files

.aif, .aifc, .aiff .asf, .au, .mp2, .mp3, .mpa, .snd, .wav, and .wma

Picture files

.bmp, .dib, .emf, .gif, .jfif, .jpe, .jpeg, .jpg, .png, .tif, .tiff, and .wmf

4. In what ways can you publish your movie?

Import all your pictures, music and video into Windows Movie Maker. Drag the media down into the
Time-line tracks into the appropriate spots (music on Audio/Music track, pictures/video on Video track.
Or, if you want, click Auto Movie feature (2.6 versions) and the media will be placed randomly, including
effects, etc. And there you go. Just press play to preview the results.

5. Would windows movie maker still be useful even if your digital camera only took still shots?
Of course, simply import your still shots and arrange them to your liking. Add music, transitions and
effects and you'll have yourself a wonderful video.

LAB 10.3
1. What factors other than storage capacity would you consider when choosing an optical drive?
You should consider the intended purpose, cost of the drive, and cost of the discs.

2. What characteristic do DVD and BD drive share?

In most ways, BD fairly similar to DVD. The players look the same, the discs look the same, and even the
disc menus are similar.
Blu-ray brings three major improvements over DVD: better image quality, better sound quality, and
more special features. All three are made possible by the larger storage capacity of Blu-ray, which is
capable of storing 50GB of information on a single Blu-ray Disc, compared with DVDs, which can hold
about 8GB.

3. If you wanted to create a discs that would never need to be altered and would be compatible with the
most systems, what types of discs would you use and why?
You would use a CD-R because it can be read by both CD and DVD drives and after it is written, it cannot
be rewritten.

4. Why is BD-ROM a better media for high resolution video than DVD?
Blu-Ray discs hold significantly more than an average DVD. This enables content producers to put the
highest resolution possible on a BD.

LAB 10.4
1. Before installing a second monitor why is it important to know whether you existing configuration is
working correctly?
It is important so that any future problems can be narrowed down to the process of adding a new
component.

2. Why do you think it is necessary to set the sequence in which the system initialize display adapter so
that the primary display is initialized first?
Normally, the AGP adapter is the primary display, but you might want your primary display to be the PCI
adapter and the secondary one to be the AGP adapter.

3. In display setting what is one way to select the monitor you want to adjust?
Click the intended monitor in the Display Properties dialog box.

4. What would probably if the new adapter was on the windows HCL and was in the production before
the release of windows?
The adapter would probably recognize and install drivers automatically.

5. Why might you want to install multiple monitors on a system?

Answers may vary, but the most likely answer is to have more than one application open, each showing
on its own monitor.

LAB 10.5
1. Are there any advantage of a 35mm film camera over digital?
Primarily resolution and the ability to get larger prints. 35mm film also gives you a lot of variety in terms
of film types, each for a different application. The Digital camera has a lot more restrictions that way,
which photographers circumvent by doing additional post processing to achieve.

2. What are some features you would like on a digital camera? Explain your choices

Get the largest amount of megapixels that I can afford.

Look for the highest optical zoom possible.
How easy I can transfer the media to a computer, printer, etc.
Average battery life, and does it take regular batteries or a special one that requires its own
charger.

3. What can you do to maximize the number of images stored on a camera without modifying the
storage device capacity?
We can reduce image quality.

4. Why is megapixel count not only measures if images quality?

Because of the increasing ways of improving quality other than megapixels.

5. What factors should you consider when purchasing a photo printer?

I think you should consider what kind of ink the printer take? How expensive are the replacement
cartridges? Is the ink water resistant? Is the ink fade resistant? Are the colors divided into cyan,
magenta, yellow and black? Or are there more?
Generally, the more color cartridges the better the color will look in the end. And you only need to
replace colors that have run out. If you buy a printer with only a single color cartridge you will have to
replace it if only one color runs out.
How fast do you need the printer to be able to print? What is the drying time? What size paper will the
printer accept? etc
