teaching aids, teacher should ensure that are suitable and closely related to the
learning objective. The importance of teaching-learning materials can be
explained briefly as follows:

teachers can save lot of time because it is no longer required to write
notes on the board for the pupils to copy.

(a) To enable pupils to relate concrete things with abstract facts;
(b) To assist pupils to enhance their memories. Usually, pupils can remember
concrete materials in a longer period rather than abstract facts;
(c) To assist pupils to carry out enrichment or remedial activities;
(d) To enable pupils to do research by using project or inquiry-discover
method, and to draw conclusion with the help of learning aids; and
(e) To help pupils to solve problems themselves with learning aids.
Criteria in the selection of teaching-learning materials
1) Teaching aids used should be suitable for teaching-learning activities.
2) Teaching aids should be original with unique ideas and illustrative design.
3) Teaching aids should be able to assist teacher in teaching activities and
pupils in their learning activities.
4) The organization of teaching aid must be attractive and effective.
5) Teaching aids ought to be made or bought with minimum cost.
6) The selected teaching aids must be suitable in size and weight so that
they will be easy to handle, use and store.
7) Teaching-learning aids should also contain good values.

pupils can see and observe then easily.
2. Before teaching aids are distributed to pupils for practical work teachers
need to give direct and clear instructions so that all learning activities can
be carried out precisely, in good disciplinary order and according to the
time allocated.
3. Show teaching aids to pupils at appropriate time only.
4. Guide pupils to discuss important facts contained in the teaching aids.
5. After using the teaching aids, store them in good condition in a suitable
place.
6. Teaching aids are only used to assist teachers in teaching-learning
activities.
Mathematics Corner
Mathematics Corner is a mini mathematics laboratory for mathematics activities.
The following are some guidelines to equip and administer the mathematics
corner in good condition.
1. Teachers can make use of a certain corner in their classroom to set up the
mathematics corner.
2. Teaching aids collected in the mathematics corner are equipments and
materials which can be used during learning activities.
3. Teaching-learning materials displayed in the mathematics corner usually
consist of charts and pictures cards
4. To ensure that the mathematics corner is managed in good and
satisfactory condition, teachers can appoint a few groups of pupils to be
