Description

Usage

Chassis Ground

Chassis Ground is connected to the Safety Ground terminal for AC inputs or

the equipment ground bus for DC inputs. Chassis ground connects to both
power supply surge grounds via a removable jumper.

PS1 Live / +

PS1 Live / + is connected to the positive (+) terminal if the power source is
DC or to the (Live) terminal if the power source is AC.

PS1 Neutral / -

PS1 Neutral / - is connected to the negative (-) terminal if the power source is
DC or to the (Neutral) terminal if the power source is AC.

PS1 Surge Ground

PS1 Surge Ground is connected to the Chassis Ground via a jumper on

the terminal block. Surge Ground is used as the ground conductor for
all surge and transient suppression circuitry. NOTE: Surge Ground must
be disconnected from Chassis Ground during HIPOT (dielectric strength)
testing.

PS2 Surge Ground

PS2 Surge Ground is connected to the Chassis Ground via a jumper on

the terminal block. Surge Ground is used as the ground conductor for
all surge and transient suppression circuitry. NOTE: Surge Ground must
be disconnected from Chassis Ground during HIPOT (dielectric strength)
testing.

PS2 Neutral / -

PS2 Neutral / - is connected to the negative (-) terminal if the power source is
DC or to the (Neutral) terminal if the power source is AC.

PS2 Live / +

PS2 Live / + is connected to the positive (+) terminal if the power source is
DC or to the (Live) terminal if the power source is AC.

For dielectric strength (HIPOT) testing in the field,

users must remove the metal jumper located on

metal jumper connects transient suppression to
chassis ground and must be removed in order to
avoid damage to transient suppression circuitry
during HIPOT testing. Figure shows the proper
HIPOT test connections and should be followed
to avoid damage to the device.

The LCP has an IEEE Std 802.3-1983 standard Ethernet Interface for 1000BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, and 10BASE-T

Copper Gigabit Ethernet 1000BASE-TX Cabling Recommendations

The IEEE Std 802.3ab-1999 standard Gigabit Ethernet standard defines 1000 Mbits/s Ethernet communications
over distances of up to 100 meters using 4 pairs of category 5 (or higher) balanced unshielded twisted-pair cabling.
For wiring guidelines, system designers and integrators should refer to the Telecommunications Industry Association
(TIA) TIA/EIA-568-A wiring standard that characterizes minimum cabling performance specifications required
for proper Gigabit Ethernet operation. To ensure reliable, error-free data communications, new and pre-existing
communication paths should be verified for TIA/EIA-568-A compliance.
In general the following recommendations should be followed for copper data in high electrical noise environments:
Data cable lengths should be as short as possible, ideally limited to 3 meters (10 feet) in length. Copper data cables
should not be used for inter-building communications.
Power and data cables should not be run in parallel for long distances, and ideally should be installed in separate
conduits. Power and data cables intersect at 900 angles when necessary to reduce inductive coupling.
Shield/screened cabling can optionally be used. The cable shield should be grounded at one single point to avoid the
generation of ground loops.

Logging into the LCP for the First Time
The LCP ships with the Microsoft Windows 7 Professional operating system installed.
The default for both the username and password of the LCP when it is first shipped is the serial number of the unit
without the dashes.

LCP Utility
The LCP includes a utility assist users in performing the following tasks.
Configure Serial Ports
Manually set Digital Outputs
View the status of Digital Inputs and Outputs
View the status of Ethernet Ports

Starting the LCP Utility

The LCP Utility is found by clicking on the Microsoft Windows Start Menu -> All Programs -> Cooper ->
LCP Utility

The LCP Utility Interface

1. The red dots denote the following:
A. The call out box on the front panel section of the interface displays the LED status that is on the front panel of the
LCP. NET indicates the gigabit port on the LCP has a link if it is green. If the link button is not lit, then it indicates
that there is no link established. Alarm is red if there are any active alarms on the unit. Both Power 1, and Power
2, are displayed as green if they are functioning and have power. Power 2 will not be lit if there is no power supply
installed. Power 1 or Power 2 will show red if there is no power being supplied or a malfunction.

B. This slot is populated with a digital input/output module. There may be additional or no slots with these buttons
depending on the configuration of the unit. The status of the digital inputs is shown red if the input is inactive. The
digital input is shown green if there is an input. The status of the digital outputs is shown. If the output is closed
the line will be horizontal to indicate a closed circuit. The line will be raised, as indicated in Figure 1, to show an
open circuit. The state of the digital outputs can be manual changed by clicking on the output.
C. The LED indicators on the Dual Ethernet card will be lit to indicate if there is an active link.
D. The LED indicators on the Gigabit Port will be lit to indicate if there is an active link.
Figure 2 shows digital output, circled in red, that is in the closed state.
