What is ISO?

ISO is the short form for International Standards

Organization
The name ISO, is derived from the Greek word

isos which means Equal


The organization was founded in 1946

of International Standards.
ISO is a network of the National Standards
Institutes of 161 countries,
One member per country, e.g. the BSJ
A Central Secretariat in Geneva, Switzerland, that
coordinates the system

Scope of ISO

ISO has more than 19,000 International

Standards and other types of documents in its


current portfolio.
ISO's work programme ranges from standards for
traditional activities, such as agriculture,
construction and technical education, through
mechanical engineering, manufacturing and
distribution, to transport, medical devices,
information and communication technologies, and
to standards for good management practice
and for services.

considered during implementation of the Quality


Management System. The requirements are applicable to all
organizations.

ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management System


ISO 10015:1999 Quality management guidelines for

training: Identify and analyze training needs, design and plan


the training, provide for the training, evaluate training
outcomes, monitor and improve the training process.
