PROBLEM FOR RESIDENTS

In village Andra Sari availability of clean water is a big problem, the facility was available before
earthquake but due to earth quake and land sliding spring water somehow disappears under
the mountains. Now there is a water source in the mountains which is far away from the
locality. It took more than 2 hour to have one cane of water. People are also using water
collected in ponds after rains, a small but smart effort can benefit the area and provision of
water will be easy for them.

WHY WE CONTRIBUTE
This village has not been facilitated by any Social development organization and government of
AJK, it is very difficult to reach there so all people who can support this activity avoid the area.
Since we were looking for such areas where community is most deserving and has not been
supported after 2005 earthquake; we found this village in district Hattian.

HOW WE CONTRIBUTE
KDF Volunteers identified three water sources in the mountains, then selected one out of them.
Owner of the land of this water source allowed us to take water from the source. A volunteer
who was related to civil engineering supported us in designing the complete scheme.

Initially we start digging in the water source and make small 2x2 tank to make water flow near
the water source. This place is near top of the mountains, too far from the community.

While coming down to the community, a big water storage tank was constructed, this is now
distributing water to three localities of the village. These localities are on three different
mountains. Water distribution has been done through PVC pipes; metallic pipes are not used to
avoid rust, which can be harmful for health.

This water tank was then coved properly, to ensure the cleanliness of water. Sanitary work was
done properly with the help of technical resources under the supervision of an engineer.

MONITORING VISIT & INAUGURATION

Water Supply Scheme Andra Seri has been inaugurated on 10 th of April, 2014 by the Chairman
of Board DM AID Mr. Nadeem Niwaz. During His visit Staff from KDF was with him, community
was happy to have the people from KDF and DM AID and express their gratitude towards them.

COMMUNITY GATHERING
KDF and DM AID representatives then, attended a community gathering. Community shared
their problems and thanks for the provision of water supply schemes. A female specially shared
the response from ladies of the community, that the females are now much relaxed due to the
water supply scheme, otherwise it was a daily routine for them to carry water from the
mountains for minimum 3 hours. Now females can have water which is very near to their
residences. Mr. Nadeem Niwaz then shared his views, and request for DUA for the ultimate
donors of DM AID.

VISIT TO DISTRIBUTION TANK

KDF and DM AID representatives then went to see the water storage tank which was more in to
mountains. Since it was a monitoring visit too, all arrangements were found in order.

Water from source is chanalise initially to small water tank which is 2x2, and then to the water
stoarage tank.

On the way to storage tanks, we observed pipes between the water source and the storage
tank.

Storage Tank connected the water source. It is operational now and the people in the area are
now getting water from the point built in the community. Few people in the community are
designated to take care of the tank and maintenance when required.
