Sustainable development was formed with an aim to preserve the
natural resource and to use it judiciously. Its definition states that we the people must keep the natural resources away from pollution, so that our next generation use it without any difficulty and remains free from any obstacles. Sustainable development is a pattern of resource use that aims to meet human needs while preserving the environment so that these needs can be met not only in the present, but also for future generations.
Sustainable development ties together concern for the
carrying capacity of natural systems with the social challenges facing humanity. In 1987, the United Nations released the Brundtland Report, which defines sustainable development as 'development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
Green development is generally differentiated from
sustainable development in that Green development prioritizes what its proponents consider to be environmental sustainability over economic and cultural considerations. Proponents of Sustainable Development argue that it provides a context in which to improve overall sustainability where cutting edge Green development is unattainable. Green Revolution also plays an important role in sustainable development. Green Revolution was established in 1968 with an aim to increase the growth rate of agricultural productivity. If there is decrease in this productivity then according to famous economist “Thomas Malthus” the whole world would die of starvation as there is constant increase in population(high birth rate and low death rate). So in order to live a healthy life we must protect the gifts of nature and must be kept pollution-free.
According to the UNESCO “sustainable development
means that we must keep the resources away from pollution and must use it with great care so that our upcoming generation can satisfy their needs fully and can sustain a healthy life”.
