SPECIFICATIONS
The ADC WorldDSL ERE-811-L5 (Figure 1) is a remote enclosure designed to house one
HDSL Line Termination Unit (LTU-804-L1C), one HDSL Universal Terminal Unit (UTU-804L1C), 1-pair G.SHDSL Universal Termination Unit (UTU-91x) or one two-pair G.SHDSL line
card (WD92xGx). The LTUs, UTUs and WD92xGx are High-bit-rate Digital Subscriber Line
(xDSL) cards from the ADCs WorldDSL product line. The ERE-811-L5 enclosure provides
rear connector interfaces for power, E1, Nx64K and xDSL lines and alarm signals.

POWER
The xDSL card installed in the ERE-811-L5 can be locally powered or line powered based on
the selection of the line card at the Central Office (CO) end. The LTU-80x cards are always
locally powered. The UTU cards must be locally powered and do not provide line power to
other units. The WD92xGx can be locally powered or line powered. WD92xGL units generate
line power and WD92xGN units terminate line power. GL and GN cards should be used in
pairs for line power application.
The ERE-811-L5 has an internal universal input AC power supply. The unswitched AC power
input is routed to a DC supply module, which in turn powers the xDSL card.

Power from a local DC supply can be applied to the xDSL card in the ERE-811-L5 through a
rear-panel power-terminal strip (provided on the ERE-811-L5 enclosure).
MOUNTING
The ERE-811-L5 may be used as a desktop unit or mounted on a wall using the holes on the
bottom of the unit. For more information, see Mounting the Enclosure on page 2.
The ERE-811-L5 has a universal power cord IEC connector, allowing it to accept multiple
international-type power cords. The power cord is not provided, but can be ordered as an
additional item.

STEP 1: INSTALLATION
Action
Remove the two screws on each side of the enclosure and remove the enclosure
cover.
NOTE: The two elongated holes on the bottom of the ERE-811-L5 enclosure are
used to mount the unit on a wall. Use the bottom of the enclosure as a mountinghole template as instructed in step 2.
Hold the bottom of the enclosure against the wall and mark the location of the two
mounting holes with a pencil.
If a problem has been isolated to this unit, do not attempt to repair it. The
unit's components are not user serviceable; therefore, they must not be
replaced. Please return the unit to ADC for repairs.
The disconnect device for this equipment is the power cord. It must be
installed in a location that can always be accessible to the user.
Be careful when installing or modifying telephone lines. Dangerous
voltages can be present. It is unsafe to install telephone wiring during a
lightning storm.
Always disconnect all telephone lines and power connections before
servicing or disassembling this equipment. For performance and safety
reasons, only power supplies listed for use with telephone equipment by
a locally recognized organization should be used with ADC equipment.
All wiring external to the product should follow the local wiring codes.
This unit operates with hazardous voltages. Caution should be exercised
during installation and removal of the cards. Prevent hands and other
objects from going inside the slots since dangerous voltages can be
present internally. Any empty slots should be covered with blank slot
faceplates.
Screw two #6 x 1-inch self-tapping screws into the wall at the locations marked in
step 2.
Position the bottom of the enclosure over the two mounting screws and slide it
downward.
CAUTION
AC power cords are not included in the ERE-811-L5 shipping carton. They can be
ordered (optionally) and shipped separately.
CAUTION
Integrated Connectors
All connectors are located on the ERE-811-L5 rear panel. The connectors are identified in
Figure 2 and in Table 1 on page 3.

If your data equipment uses a 75 or 120 G.703 E1 interface, connect its cables to the
appropriate connectors on the ERE-811-L5 rear panel.
The enclosure provides two types of G.703 cable connectors, BNC for 75 coaxial cable and
DB-15F for 120 twisted-pair cable. The location of the two 75 G.703 connectors (In and
Out) and the 120 G.703 interface connector are shown in Figure 2 on page 2. The pinouts
for the 75 G.703 (BNC) In/Out connectors are listed in Table 3. The pinouts for the 120
G.703 (DB-15F) interface connector are listed in Table 4. The pinouts for the 120 G.703
(BD-25F) Data Port interface connector are listed in Table 5 on page 4.
Make the G.703 interface connections as follows:
If your equipment uses 75 coaxial cable, connect the equipment's output cable to the
75 IN (BNC) connector on the enclosure rear panel. Connect the equipment's input
cable to the 75 OUT (BNC) connector.
If your equipment uses 120 twisted-pair cable, connect the cable to the 120
(DB-15F) interface connector on the enclosure rear panel.
A jumper setting or software configuration must be made on the LTU or UTU line card
to match the type of cable used by your equipment (75 or 120 ). Software
configuration is required for selecting 75 or 120 in WD92xGx line cards. For
more information, see the documentation that came with the line card.

DC input voltage for all WorldDSL xDSL cards (nominal -48 Vdc,
tolerance -36 to -72 Vdc) must be supplied by an isolated DC source that
complies with TNV or earthed SELV requirements of the latest version of
IEC 950.
CTS
To comply with EN 60950, the local source of DC power (when used) may
not exceed -60 Vdc when the WD92xGx, UTU-91x, UTU-80x-L1C or
LTU-80x-L1C are installed in the ERE-811-L5.

UTUs must be locally powered and they do not provide line power to other units.
Power may be applied simultaneously to both the AC and DC inputs on the
ERE-811-L5. These sources are diode ORed on the line card; if one power source
fails, the second power source continues to provide power.
If line power is present at the ERE-811-L5, ADC recommends that you do not supply
local power to the unit to maintain proper operation.
