Step

Action

Remove the two screws on each side of the enclosure and remove the enclosure
cover.
NOTE: The two elongated holes on the bottom of the ERE-811-L5 enclosure are
used to mount the unit on a wall. Use the bottom of the enclosure as a mountinghole template as instructed in step 2.

For specific CE Mark compliant combinations, see the EC Declaration of Conformity

for WorldDSL products (LTPE-DC-3165).

Hold the bottom of the enclosure against the wall and mark the location of the two
mounting holes with a pencil.

If a problem has been isolated to this unit, do not attempt to repair it. The
unit's components are not user serviceable; therefore, they must not be
replaced. Please return the unit to ADC for repairs.
The disconnect device for this equipment is the power cord. It must be
installed in a location that can always be accessible to the user.
Be careful when installing or modifying telephone lines. Dangerous
voltages can be present. It is unsafe to install telephone wiring during a
lightning storm.
Always disconnect all telephone lines and power connections before
servicing or disassembling this equipment. For performance and safety
reasons, only power supplies listed for use with telephone equipment by
a locally recognized organization should be used with ADC equipment.
All wiring external to the product should follow the local wiring codes.
This unit operates with hazardous voltages. Caution should be exercised
during installation and removal of the cards. Prevent hands and other
objects from going inside the slots since dangerous voltages can be
present internally. Any empty slots should be covered with blank slot
faceplates.

Screw two #6 x 1-inch self-tapping screws into the wall at the locations marked in
step 2.

Position the bottom of the enclosure over the two mounting screws and slide it
downward.

Tighten the two mounting screws to secure the enclosure in place.

DC input voltage for all WorldDSL xDSL cards (nominal -48 Vdc,
tolerance -36 to -72 Vdc) must be supplied by an isolated DC source that
complies with TNV or earthed SELV requirements of the latest version of
IEC 950.

CTS

To comply with EN 60950, the local source of DC power (when used) may
not exceed -60 Vdc when the WD92xGx, UTU-91x, UTU-80x-L1C or
LTU-80x-L1C are installed in the ERE-811-L5.

STEP 6: CONNECTING AC POWER

To power the ERE-811-L5 from an AC power source, insert the AC power cord into the power
cord connector on the ERE-811-L5 rear panel. Plug the other end of the power cord into a
source of 100 to 240 volt, 50 or 60 Hz AC power.
CAUTION

xDSL Card

Captive Screw

With AC power connected, the internal AC to DC converter is always

operating. Do not insert anything other than a WD92xGx, LTU or UTU into
the ERE-811-L5 card slot.

STEP 7: INSTALLING AN XDSL CARD IN THE ERE-811-L5 ENCLOSURE

Once the enclosure is correctly wired, you can install a WD92xGx, LTU-80x or UTU xDSL
card. Each xDSL card requires a jumper setting that may differ from card to card. To make
the proper jumper setting, see the documentation that came with the WD92xGx, LTU or UTU
xDSL card.

ATTENTION

xDSL cards contain static-sensitive components. Be sure to wear an

antistatic wrist strap connected to ground when performing the
installation procedures.

After setting the jumper on the xDSL card, install it in the enclosure as follows:
Step

Action

Align the xDSL card with the guide rails at the left and right sides of the enclosure
opening (Figure 4).

Push the card into the enclosure until its front panel is flush with the front of the
enclosure.

Secure the xDSL card to the enclosure with the two captive screws on the card
front panel.

Captive Screw

Figure 4. Installing an xDSL Card in the ERE-811-L5 Enclosure

STEP 8: POWERING AN XDSL CARD IN THE ERE-811-L5 ENCLOSURE

WD92xGL cards are always locally powered by a nominal -48 Vdc if using the line/span
powering feature. LTU cards are always locally powered by a nominal -48 Vdc. This local
power is supplied either by the integrated AC-to-DC converter in the ERE-811-L5 or by an
externally connected DC power supply. WD92xGL cards contain circuitry that can deliver
120 Vdc or 160 Vdc over one or both G.SHDSL loops to a remote WD92xGN, WDU-940-L1
G.SHDSL doubler or ETU-92x. Remote WD92xGN cards can be locally powered or line
powered by a WD92xGL card. LTU-80x cards contain circuitry that can deliver 120 Vdc at up
to 60 mA over both xDSL loops to a remote NTU. For information about powering the specific
cards you are using, see the appropriate WD92xGx, LTU, NTU or UTU User Manual.
CAUTION

Do not operate the ERE-811-L5 enclosure with the cover removed.

Hazardous voltages are present.

UTUs must be locally powered and they do not provide line power to other units.
Power may be applied simultaneously to both the AC and DC inputs on the
ERE-811-L5. These sources are diode ORed on the line card; if one power source
fails, the second power source continues to provide power.
If line power is present at the ERE-811-L5, ADC recommends that you do not supply
local power to the unit to maintain proper operation.
