11. (a) For about 200 TV sets were tested to find its life time of its picture tube using normal
distribution, it was found that the mean of 8 years and a standard deviation of 2 years. The
manufacture of the TV gives the guarantee period for about 7 years.
(i) what is the probability that a picture tube will last more than 10 years.
(ii) No of Picture tube will be available between 5 years to 10 years.
(iii) what is the probability that a picture tube will last less than the guarantee period.
(iv) At what percentage the picture tube will after the guarantee period.

12 (a) A company manufacture small electric bulbs in mass production for a special festival
seasons. Five bulbs, one of each colour were packed in each of the boxes which were to be
sold as one unit item to the customers. Due to shortage of time, quality was compromised, and
it follows binomial distribution it was estimated that 20% of the bulbs were defectives. What is
the probability that the box will have

13 (a) In a basin area where oil is likely to be found underneath the surface, there are three
locations with three different types of earth composition say C1, C2, C3. The probabilities for
these three compositions are 0.5 , 0.3 and 0.2 respectively. Further it has been found from the
past experience that after drilling of well at these locations, the percentage of finding oil is 2% ,
4% and 3% respectively. Suppose a well is drilled at a location, and it yields oil. What is the
probability that the earth composition was (i) C1 (ii) C2 (iii) C3 ?

13 (b) Four machines M1, M2, M3 and M4 producing 30%, 25%, 20% and 25% respectively of
the total output are known to produce with defective proportion of items are 0.04, 0.02, 0.03 and
0.04 respectively. On a particular day, a unit of output is selected at random, and is found to be
defective. What is probability that it was produced by (i) M1 (ii) M2 (iii) M3 (iv) M4?

14 (a) In order to introduce some incentive for higher balance in savings accounts, a random
sample of size 64 saving accounts at banks branch was studied to estimate the average
monthly balance in savings bank accounts. The mean and standard deviation were found to be
Rs.8500 and Rs.2000 respectively.
Find (i) 95% confidence intervals for the population mean (ii) 99% confidence intervals for the
population mean (iii) 90% confidence intervals for the population mean.

14 (b) In a Departmental Store, 380 customers out of random sample of 800 customers were
found to be using Visa credit card. Discuss whether this information supports the view that the
majority of customers of the store are using cards other than Visa at
