Please note: This report provides you with information about individual marks for your modules. You need to be
aware of two important points:
1.

2.

Year

This does not signify that an award has been conferred, nor does it provide information about
progression to the next stage of your course. The results of assessments (marks and grades)
are subject to ratification by a Course Examination Board. You will be notified of such decisions
by your School as soon as possible after the Course Examination Board.
In some cases individual module marks may appear as "unavailable". The processing of this
information for all our students does take a while, so please allow your school office sufficient
time to complete the data entry before contacting them with any questions you may have
regarding the content or accuracy of this report.

NOTES AND GLOSSARY OF TERMS

The report shows the code and title of the course components, units or modules which comprised the programme
of study; the academic year in which they were taken; the level at which the component was offered and the
result indicating the academic performance achieved in each component. Each component is assigned a credit
value.
Results
The candidate is awarded a numerical mark out of 100 and/or a grade as a measure of academic performance
(). This leads to a result of Pass, Fail or Defer in each component.
In addition, the following grades might be used:
P
DS
M

Result Deferred (pending Referral or Deferral

undertaken in the next or subsequent academic
year)
H
Held result (see below)
CC
Compensated Credit (see below)
MC/PC Accreditation of prior learning (see below)
() From 2008/9, module marks on undergraduate courses are recorded using the university marking/grading
scale as detailed in the General Examination and Assessment Regulations for Taught Courses (GEAR).
All re-assessment marks are identified by an asterisk (*).
Held results
A Held result denotes a module for which either you have been given an extension to a date beyond the Area
Examination Board which is due to agree the result, or the Area Examination Board has, for some reason, been
unable to come to a decision. Details are available from the appropriate module tutor.
Accreditation of Prior Learning
Components may be marked with the letters MC or PC, indicating that the component has been accredited. A
student may be awarded credit for a component required by the programme but which he/she was not required to
study since the knowledge or skills had been achieved by prior learning, either certificated or experiential, and
has been recognised as being equivalent by the University.
Compensated credit (CC)
A student may be awarded compensation at each stage of a programme, where the Examination Board judges
that the totality of the student's performance merits this.
Level and credit rating
A level is assigned to a component and defines the level of complexity, relative demand and/or depth of learning,
and autonomy expected of the student, in alignment with the QAA Framework for Higher Education Qualifications
in England, Wales and Northern Ireland (FHEQ). Former levels 1, 2, 3 and M are now 4, 5, 6 and 7 respectively.
The credit assigned to each component is indicative of the total student learning effort required to achieve the
learning outcomes, with one credit point representing ten notional hours of learning, in alignment with the QAA
Higher Education Credit Framework for England.
