OSPI:
Math 1.1.I Classify a number as odd or even
and demonstrate that it is odd or even.
Health and Fitness GLE 1.1.1 Demonstrates
mature form in locomotor skills that contribute
to movement proficiency.
The student will play Red Light, Green Light
using odd and even numbers.
The student will understand the meaning of the
words odd and even.

9. Assessment
Plan
The assessment for this lesson will
be observation. As the students
participate in the game, the
teacher will observe them.

Rationale
The reason for using observation is
because the students are just
playing a game. The teacher can
just watch students to see if they
understand the difference between
odd and even numbers.

10. Lesson Rationale

Upon what assessment data or previous lessons are you building?
Answer: This lesson will be built off of previous lessons in which
students already learned odd and even numbers. This lesson gives
them more practice with numbers, while also being active.

WHAT requisite skills do students need in order to access the lesson & participate
fully?

Answer: The students will need to know the difference between odd
and even numbers and how to play Red Light, Green Light.
How does the content build on what the students already know and are able to do?
Answer: Students are building on their current knowledge of odd and
even numbers. They are getting more practice with odd and even
numbers by applying them in a different scenario.
HOW does this lesson fit in the curriculum?
Answer: The curriculum requires students to identify numbers and to
be able to demonstrate locomotor skills. This lesson allows them to
identify numbers as odd or even while practicing the locomotor skill of
running.
By teaching this lesson, how will this add to student learning?
Answer: This lesson will add to student learning by integrating two
subjects with each other. Students are getting extra practice with a
math skill by having it incorporated into their physical education
lesson.
How will the learning in this lesson be further developed in subsequent lessons?
Answer: In the future, students will learn more about odd and even
numbers and will apply that knowledge when learning new skills, such
as rules for solving math expressions.

forward. When the teacher says an odd number,

they will stop running.

12. Differentiated Instruction

Plan
The students who struggle with odd and even numbers will be given
more time to determine whether to run or not.
The students who are more advanced will be asked to perform a
different locomotor skill other than running.
13. Resources and Materials
Plan
The only material needed for this lesson is a wide-open space to play
the game.
14. Management and Safety Issues
Plan
The management and safety issues will be ensuring that students dont
run into each other while playing the game. To prevent this, the
teacher will have students spread out and make sure that they run
straight.
15. Parent & Community Connections
Plan
In order to involve the students family, the teacher will have the
students go home and tell their family about the game they played at
school.
