SPRING SEMESTER 2010 ASSEMBLY INTERNSHIP

Background:

Assemblymember Jonathan Bing was first elected to the New York State Assembly in 2002 to
represent the 73rd Assembly District on the East Side of Manhattan. The District Office is
particularly conducive to a successful internship given the small, close-knit staff and the fun and
challenging work environment. Our interns can expect to learn many important skills including
community development, communications, legislative research, and networking. You can learn
more about Assemblymember Bing at www.assembly.state.ny.us.

Description:

Interns will be asked to take part in all aspects of running a successful legislative office.
Press – write newsletters, press releases, opinion editorials, news summaries and assist
coordinating press conferences.
Event Planning – plan, coordinate and advertise community events such as forums.
Legislation – legislative research, develop legislative position letters, draft proposals for new
legislation.
Constituent Services – provide assistance, respond to inquiries, and work with government
agencies to resolve problems.

In addition to the regular assignments outlined above, interns possessing unique skills will also
devote a small amount of time to special projects. These projects include improving design and
layout of press and event materials for graphics students, or developing digital outreach and
constituent information management for computer science students.

"Working in Assemblyman Bing's office provided invaluable experience in an exciting but low-
stress, liberal environment. I learned more in my summer here than I have in four semesters of
Political Science classes." Ben Jacobs, SUNY Albany Sophomore, Summer Intern 2007.

Application Details:

This will be an unpaid internship and applicants are expected to secure academic credit.
Interns must commit to working in the district office at least fifteen hours a week. The length
and times of the internship are negotiable. Please send resumes and cover letters to our district
office, bingj@assembly.state.ny.us, or fax (212) 605-9948. Applications for spring semester
2010 are accepted on a rolling basis with preference for applications received before December
19, 2009.
