A / GRAMMAR AND STRUCTURE DRILL:

On the Distinction between the singular and the plural as in the following
structure
drill:
Are dogs animals?
Yes, a dog is an animal.
Note that the verb TO BE has different forms, namely I am, you are , he / she / it is ,
we / you / they are.
Also nouns take an S in the plural: dogs, animals....
When in singular, a noun is preceded by the indefinite article a
if the noun begins with a consonant ( ex : a dog , a cat , a pen ... ) the indefinite
article
become an when the noun begins with a vowel ( ex : an animal , an
apple ...) .
EXERCISE : On the basis of the structure drill given above , rebuild the following
drills.

B/ VOCABULARY DEVELOPMENT:
The Four Seasons.
1/ spring is a RAINY season, i . e . it often RAINS , the sky is never without
a cloud (or is always CLOWDY ) . Sometimes it AILS:
HAIL-STONES are frozen RAINDROPS.
When there is a SHOWER and sunshine at the same time, a Rainbow appears
in the sky.
NOTE: * the first season identified in this Text is spring

C/ PHONETICS:
Phonetics is the scientific investigation of sounds. There are two main kinds of
sounds: VOWELS and CONSONANTS.
1/ VOWELS are distinguished on the basis of the position of the tongue.
In English there are 3 types of vowels:
FRONT VOWELS.
CENTRAL VOWELS .
BACK VOWELS.
a / - Front Vowels :
/ i :/ as in SEE , SEA , BEAT , EAT .........................
/ i / as in SIN , IN , BIT , IT ....................................
NOTE: Putting the symbols i : between spans means that they are phonetic symbols
used in phonetic transcription.

Note that the simple present is used to describe permanent or habitual actions
events ( usually , sometimes , often ....)
Also the only inflexion in the simple present is the -s of the third person
singular.
