BINOMIAL DISTRIBUTION

Mr. Vipin Khurana

Definition: A random variable X is said to follow binomial distribution if it assumes only
finite non-negative values and its probability mass function is given by
P(X=x) = p(x) = nCx px .qn-x ;

x = 0,1n;

q = 1-p

= 0, otherwise
The two independent constants n and p in the distribution are known as the
parameters of the distribution. n` is also , sometimes, known as the degree of the
distribution.
Binomial distribution is a discrete distribution as X can take only the integral
values , viz. , 0,1,2,.n. Any variable which follows binomial distribution is known as
binomial variate.
If X is a binomial variate with parameters n and p, we shall write X~B(n, p)
Mean and Variance of Binomial Distribution.: Mean = E(X) = 1 = np
Variance = 2 = 2 - (1)2 = npq
where 2 = E(X2)

called , at least 3 of them will be busy.
Ans :13025/(15)6

Q5)

A pair dice is thrown 7 times . If getting a total of 7 is considered as success .
