4.0 Schools Host Smart Cities Summit


Building the future of school one piece at a time.

NEW ORLEANS - The Smart Cities Summit is a gathering to discuss dramatically


improving the education and employability of New Orleans students. The event will take
place November 12, 2014 from 3 p.m. until 8p.m. at 4.0 SCHOOLS (IP Building) 643
Magazine St. The summit will include hands-on conversation with a group of education,
civic, corporate and non-profit leaders exploring the relationship between our citys
educational output and economic impact. Participants will share insights on current
initiatives, exchange ideas for future initiatives.
The Summit is inspired by a new book written by Tom VanderArk (former head of
Education Philanthropy at the Gates Foundation, X Prize Foundation, and respected
education investor) titled "Smart Cities That Work for Everyone: 7 Keys to Education
and Employment."
The event will be hosted by Tom VanderArk and Matt Candler, founder and CEO of 4.0
Schools. Keynote address from Tom VanderArk and Matt Candler, will take place from 3
p.m. until 5p.m., followed by an opportunity to hear what others are doing to improve
education and employability in our city, and share your ideas for new actions and
initiatives.
The opportunity to network with educators, entrepreneurs and community
members will take place at Happy Hour from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. Followed by a
science-fair style showcase featuring the latest innovations in blended learning,
connecting students with industry partners, redesigning schools and more.
