A Hell Out of Earth

-Von Jay Maico Gabucan

PAGASA has announced that climate change "is one of the most fundamental challenges ever to confront humanity." Its
impacts reach far and wide. It affects everything from the smallest living micro-organism to the high-rising progress of
man. And without proper awareness of the issue, climate change can make a living hell out of earth.

Climate change is due to greenhouse gases, or gaseous compounds(most likely carbon dioxide) trapped inside the
Earth's atmosphere. These gases build up inside and cause the world's temperature to warm up dramatically. With this
in due, damages are as close to havoc.

Rainfall will decrease in some areas or regions. The government has implemented water systems for the benefit of the
community, but in the worst-case scenario, will likely add fuel to the fire. Rainfalls will also be intense in some places
causing events that pose dangers to humans.

Consequently with the high-rising temperature and the decrease of rainfall, agriculture of a community is affected.
PAGASA proved that crops tend to wither and be unproductive in weather conditions inappropriate for breeding and
planting.

Climate change also damages the coast and its resources. Sea levels will rise and erase small islands from the face of
Earth. The condition will increase the rate of occurrences of tropical cyclones. The damage will affect the many lives
depending on the coastal resources.

Furthermore, the extreme temperature will strike a community's fishery. Fishes will move to a cooler and deeper
sea/ocean area forcing the fishermen to risk their safety for a more productive harvest.

In all these cases, human health is a vital point. The temperature increases exponentially increasing the rate of diseases
for both airborne and bacterium causes. Foreign and deadly diseases will likely surface . Death will be inevitable.

In conclusion, scientists and researchers are gathering up solutions and alternatives to solve the case at hand. The
United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change(UNFCCC) leads and coordinates all these researches
systematically. Their task is to take steps in adapting the changes of the world and to lessen future impacts.

Ribbon Cutting in LNCHS

Progress! That is what's happening.

On August 22 of 2014, Lupon National Comprehensive High School held a ceremony turning over one activity
center and 23 chairs. This is to give celebration and appreciation for the success of the establishment and to those who
have contributed to it.
At exactly 10 in the morning, the activity center was packed. Parents attended the ceremony. Visitors like the
PTCA officials came. Barangay authorities, along with Mayor Domingo Lim were invited. Assets of education like the OICs
and principals of different schools came. A representative from the DepEd visited. The faculty staff along with the
students greeted each visitor with glowing faces and beaming smiles.
The formality was not just for the parents and visitors, though. It was also for the students and teachers.
"Having an activity center is such a great blessing," the school's SSG president, Shania Banguit said in an
interview. "And of course, along this are the 23 chairs. I do believe that we students should be grateful for this and thank
the contributors and of course God."
After the ceremony, a feast was offered to the visitors. Delicious foods stood the tabletop like models in fashion
show - absolutely amazing.
Another blessing has been grated upon the school. This just shows how much Compre has progressed. And with
this, along with many more, the school maintains in serving the best fot the community. Just like Congressman Almario
says,
"Mayong edukasyon para sa Mayong kaugmaon".

A Better Place
-Von Jay Maico Gabucan

Through the ups and downs of our lives, we always have our family to cling on to. But what if a part of it was missing?

Lupon National Comprehensive High School has been given a new principal this 2014. She was from Libudon Nat'l High
School. But before that, she was assigned from the same school as she is assigned now. She is none other than, Mrs.
Virginia Castillon.

The comeback was very lightening for her. She admitted in an interview that she was praying to God for the chance to
come back to Compre, and she was grateful the prayer was heard. But right after that, her grandchild died.

Marcus Derek Castillon, 11 months old, died of heart attack. The cause was due to his condition. he had an enlarged
heart due to prematurity. He was incubated for 2 months.

Mrs Castillon even added that Marcus lived in and out of the hospital.

But in all those time, they never thought of the child's weakness. Everytime the nurse checked on the baby, she told me,
the baby would smile so wide that the corners of his lips would reach his ears.

"Grabe na man gani to mututok tas mukatawa pag mutanaw tog ipad," the grandmother recalled smiling.

Regardless, the family will be celebrating the child's birthday this early December.

Though teary eyed, Ma'am Virginia said that they cannot do anything about it for it is the will of God.

"But it puts me at ease that he is in a better place now."

Crimes should not be Reflected on the "Entire Country"

-Von Jay Maico Gabucan

A Filipino transgender woman was found lifeless in a motel inn with a cream colored blanket covering the lower half of
her body, visible bruise marks on her neck, and her head leaning on the rim of the toilet bowl. The suspect was
discovered to be a US Marine visiting the Philippines for military combat drills allowed under the Visiting Forces
Agreement.

Hatred was said to be a big factor of provocation regarding the incident. According to the report prepared by
investigator-on-case SPO3 Tyrone DP Tecson, Joseph Scott Pemberton engaged the victim for "sex service." His
discovery that she was gay prompted him to kill the victim. Rumours on the internet said that after the service, she
attempted to steal money from the suspect causing more heat.

The killing of Jeffrey "Jennifer" Laude has caused tension between the international relations between the US and
Philippines. The United States had custody over the suspect first hand following the VFA agreement but left-winged
groups have staged small protests at the US Embassy demanding the turning over of the custody over Pemberton to the
Philippines calling forth the 1998 agreement.

Under the Visiting Forces Agreement, which allows U.S. forces to conduct combat drills in the country, the Philippines
can prosecute American service members, but the U.S. has custody over them 'from the commission of the offense until
completion of all judicial proceedings.' This shows special treatment of US troops in the Philippines while second-class
citizen treatment of Filipinos on the other side.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said Monday that Washington seeks no special privilege for the suspect but only
protection of his(Pemberton's) rights.

This is the second time that a high-profile custody battle has happened between the two nations. The first was dated on
2005 when Daniel Smith was guilty of raping a Filipino woman after a night of drinking.

Just as P-noy said. "The sin of one person should not reflect on the entire country."
