Acknowledgement
We would like to express our deepest appreciation to all those who
provided us the possibility to complete this report. First, a special gratitude to
Mr. Shankar, our social psychology lecturer for guiding us and giving us some
useful tips for this study and also for teaching us about social psychology
which helped us to complete this project more efficiently, also for his
contribution in stimulating suggestions and encouragement helped us to
coordinate our project especially in writing this report.
On the other hand we would like to extend our sincere regards to our
group members for their hard work, participation, contribution and cooperation
throughout the whole journey of this project with their invaluable opinions and
suggestions to complete the project successfully. Lastly, we would also like to
thank our university for supporting us with resources. We would not have done
it without you!

Introduction
We were divided into a group of five students by our lecturer, Mr.
Shankar for our final project at the beginning of this semester. This project is
about conducting a social psychology conceptual video clip and a presentation
for the video. The objectives of this assignment are to allow students to
demonstrate implementation of social psychology concepts to practical
environments and enhance teamwork ability and leadership. Moreover, students
will be able to apply critical thinking in real world experiences. There are two
parts in this project. Part 1 is about making up a video clip by incorporating the
concepts we learnt in class and a written report of the clip. Part 2 is about
presenting the video clip to class and conducting a group presentation that
should be approximately 20 minutes.

Method
Apparatus/Materials
1. Tablet:
For this assignment, we are required to make a video and since none of our
group members have a video recorder or a camera, we decided to go for the next
best thing, a tablet. Since all tablets are able to record videos, we took it to our
advantage and used the video recorder provided in the tablet. We also needed a
cameraman and all of us had a part to play in this video, we took turns to hold
the tablet while we record our video.

2. Script:
For our video to be successful, we need a script for how our video will go, so
we all brainstormed to generate ideas on how to make a story line for our video
which we can implement 5 concepts of social psychology we have learnt during
lectures.

3. Jacket:
For our video, we wanted to one of our group members to fight a monster so we
used a jacket to disguise one of our members as our monster for the video.

4. Pen and papers:

We used some papers as signs, application forms and letters for our video
making.

Procedures
1. Confirming the 5 concepts used for the video
A meeting was arranged so that all our group members would gather and
discuss on what are the 5 concepts that should be included in the video. This so
that we can come up with a proper story line so that we can ensure smooth
recording of our video. The five concepts we have chosen are observational
learning, extrinsic motivation, social facilitation, self-fulfilling prophecy and
downward counterfactual thinking.
2. Planning for the video
After completing our research, we plan for video making. We wrote a script
which consists of the 5 concepts that we have chosen to include in this video.
We have also chosen the places we will shoot our video and they are at the
library, outside lecture hall 21 and 22 and last of all, at the parking area.
3. Shooting the video
We gathered together at 9 oclock in the morning bright and early, this was to
avoid other people from staring at us. Initially, we recorded pretty fast, but by
the time it has reached 10 oclock, students started gathering around so we got
more nervous and shy when trying to act out our play. So we had to redo a few
clips several times due to a few mistakes such as the voice being too soft or we
did not act out accordingly.

Discussion
Storyline of the video
Scene 1 :
Ben graduates from Taylor's University and he decided to find a job as a
quantity surveyor. He decided to apply in a well-known company. With the
competitors he has to face, he needs to work hard to get the job. After seeing the
employee histories, he finds out that majority of them does not get the job.
Scene 2:
He decided to fill in the application form and he sees that the requirements he
has to do are ridiculous. But he does it for the job anyways because those
minorities that succeeded in getting the jobs are very successful now. So Ben
refers to how these people completed the tasks. His mother gave him motivation
to do better.
Scene 3:
One of the requirement is to clean the toilet and the second requirement is to
buy a car. As silly as it may sounds the boss said it does relates to quantity
surveying. The last one is to fight a monster. Ben works hard to pass the
requirements as he is motivated to get the job. Ben cannot do well when he is
practising alone. At last he defeated the monster when competing with others
and successfully get the job as a quantity surveyor.

Concepts
There are 5 concepts related to the video storyline.
They are:
1. Observational Learning
- Observational learning (also known as vicarious learning, social learning,
or modeling) is a type of learning that occurs as a function of observing,
retaining and replicating novel behaviour executed by others.
- From the story, those minorities that succeeded in getting the job are very
successful now. So Ben refers to how these people completed the tasks by
observational learning.
2. Extrinsic Motivation
- Extrinsic motivation refers to motivation that comes from outside an
individual. The motivating factors are external, or outside, rewards such as
money or grades. These rewards provide satisfaction and pleasure that the
task itself may not provide.
- Ben is motivated to complete the tasks because he really wants to get the
job as a quantity surveyor to earn money.
3. Social Facilitation
- Social facilitation is the tendency for people to do better on simple tasks
when in the presence of other people. This implies that, whenever people are
being watched by others, they will do well on things that they are already
good at doing.
- Ben cannot do well when he is practising alone. However, when he
competes with other participants, he successfully completes the tasks.

4. Self Fulfilling Prophecy

- A self-fulfilling prophecy is a prediction that directly or indirectly causes
itself to become true, by the very terms of the prophecy itself, due to positive
feedback between belief and behaviour.
- Ben predicts that he will do well in completing the tasks. Eventually he
really did it and get the job.

5. Downward Counterfactual Thinking

- Downward counterfactual thinking is a positive additive statement involves
engaging in an event that did not originally occur.
- Although Bens marks are not high, he is happy that at least he passed all
the requirements.

Conclusion
From this project we learnt how to apply all these concepts taught in real
life. By applying into our real life, we now have a better understanding of the
concepts hence strengthen our knowledge of social psychology. This would
help in everyones life especially in the aspect of communication with others,
and this would reduce misunderstanding from happening. This is the main
benefit that we gained from this project. Then, we have also learnt more about
video shooting skills, and also acting skills. As all of us are not a good or
experienced actor or actress, in front of camera, it is hard for us to act naturally.
Often we felt nervous and awkward in front of camera. However, we tried our
best to overcome these difficulties and managed to finish our video. In
conclusion, this is a very nice experience for all of us. Besides gaining more
knowledge and understanding of Social Psychology, we were also indulged in
the fun of video shooting.
