Hal 76 no. 15 :
As you stand on a floor, does the floor exert an upward force againts your feet? How much
force does it exert? Why are you not moved upward by this force?
Jawab:
Yes, the floor exerts an upward-directed normal force, or support force, against my feet.
Because I am at rest, and not accelerating in the vertical direction, this force exactly counters
the downward force on me, which is due to the gravitational force on me, i.e. my weight.
That is, the floor exerts a force exactly equal to my weight, in the upward direction. I am not
moved upward by this force because the net force on me is zero the upward force from the
floor and the downward gravitational force exactly cancel.
Hal 76 no. 19 :
Two 100-N weights are atteched to a spiring scale as shown. Does the scale read 0, 100, or
200 N, or give some other reading? (Hint: Would it read any differently if one of the rospes
were tied to the wall instead of to the hanging 100-N weights?)
Jawab :
100 N
Hal 78 no. 3 :
If you stand next to a wall on a frictionless skateboard and push the wall with a force of 30
N, how hard does the wall push you? If your mass is 60 kg, whats your acceleration?
Jawab :
30 N
