FOCUS OF LESSON: Spatial Awareness and Locomotor Skills and Movement Concepts
STUDENT PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES (SPO):
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
(P): Practice a variety of locomotor skills within the boundaries while maintaining balance. (SHAPE
S1.E1.K; MA CF 2.2)
(C): Classify the rhyming locomotor skills with the rhyming words of the poem. (SHAPE S4.E6.K; MA
CF 2.4)
(A):. Accepts responsibility during the lesson by remaining in the boundaries and keeping a personal
bubble. (SHAPE S4.E2.K; MA CF 2.7)
TEACHER PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES - During the lesson the teacher will:
1. Inform students about what is going to happen immediately and what is expected as soon as the activity
finishes to help save time.
2. Determine whether or additional locomotor skills or movement concepts should be included based on
the students performance.
3. Award Ss based on classroom behavior program (warm fuzzies/clip up/positive pockets) when they
happen. Classroom awards will be determined at the end of a class.
4. State the objectives at the beginning, middle and end of the lesson by direct telling or informal
questioning.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS - What are the safety concerns? What is unique about the students
in this class?
1. Students must move within the general space determined by the boundaries to eliminate the risk of
students bumping into walls, other objects, or each other.
2. Students can only begin moving when the music starts or on the go signal.
3. Students should be frozen after a countdown of 3,2,1 freeze.
4. Teacher must wear receiver for student with hearing aide, remember to speak clearly and be sure the
students eyes are on the teacher.

0:00 Transition: Students will be asked to

their left hand, and given a colored
wristband on that hand as they enter the
gymnasium. They will be instructed to
place the wrist band on their left hand and
stand on the blue sideline.
0:30 Warm-up: Learning the Boundaries
4:30 Side-Line/Center Line/End line
Ss will warm up with learning ladders
(letter recognition) and jumping over the
letters. Four different ladders ss will
rotate through.
4:30 Transition: When the students are seated
4:45 facing Ms. Moss she will continue.
4:45 Instruction: Informing of Spatial

Ms. Moss will explain the days
objectives. Ms. Moss will continue to
explain the poetry lesson with the word
of the week being POEM. Ss will work
with Ms. Moss to fill in the poem 5 Little
Locomotor Pumpkins with locomotor
skills (word bank on whiteboard).

Little Pumpkin Poem
Students will repeat after Ms. Moss the
parts of the poem and demonstrate the
locomotor skills that match to the pieces
of the poem the ss added.

Transition:
When Ss hear the freeze phrase, they
will travel to a hotspot which matches
their wristband color and freeze standing
on their hotspot, feet together, hands still
at sides, eyes on Ms. Moss.

30:30- Closure:
34:00 Ss will be called by wristband group and
asked to walk and hand wristband to Ms.
Moss. The class will discuss the rhyming
words in the poem and locomotor skills
and directions weve practiced throughout
the Locomotor unit.
