In this era of modernization and civilization,

What is actually referred as diabetes? Diabetes or also known as diabetes mellitus in scientific term is
circumscribed as a group of metabolic disorders of carbohydrate metabolism in which glucose is
underused producing hyperglycemia. It can be divided into 4 types, Type 1 diabetes mellitus, Type 2
diabetes mellitus, other specific types of diabetes (formerly known as secondary diabetes) and
gestational diabetes mellitus. Type 2 diabetes mellitus is the most common form of diabetes accounting
for about 90% of cases around the world. Type 2 diabetes mellitus usually results from the insulin
resistance, a condition which cells fail to use insulin properly, sometimes combined with absolute insulin
deficiency. It also characterized by hyperglycemia. It commonly occur in patients which older than age of
40 and also among obese people. Insulin resistance and impairment of insulin secretion cause this type
of diabetes. The causes are multifactorial and predisposing factors include obesity, sedentary lifestyle,
increasing age affecting middle-aged and older people, and genetic factors. Microvascular and
macrovascular problems are often associated with the patients.
How can we prevent it? Always choose good fat based foods rather than the bad fat based foods. In our
daily routine diet, types of fats in your meal can also affect the development of diabetes. Good fats such
as the polysaturated fats found in liquid form of vegetables oils, nuts and seeds can cure type 2 diabetes
mellitus. Meanwhile, the trans fats will show the opposite effects. These bad fats are found in many
margarines, packaged baked goods, fried foods in most fast food restaurants and any product that have
label information of partially hydrogenated vegetable oil. If you already suffer for diabetes, eating fish
that highly rich in proteins and omega can protect ourself from the heart attack or fatal due to heart
disease.
Beside that, we should make sure there is a boundary for intake of red meat and processed meat in our
daily meals. This is because it can increases the risk of diabetes. Research by world scientists have
proven that people who consume brown rice is having about 11% lower risk for getting diabetes rather
than the people who rarely consume brown rice.
Futhermore, we should always try skip the sugary drinks but choose water, tea or coffee instead. Like
refined grains, beverages that have high content of sugar and drinking this types of drinks can lead us to
diabetes. Research has proven every 12-ounce serving or sugaray beverage that people drank every day,
their risk for getting diabetes mellitus type 2 rose 25 percent.
