FORENSIC BALLISTICS

III. Course Description:


This course involves a scientific study of firearm identification with the use of laboratory examination. The subject gives emphasis on the study of ammunitions,
projectiles, gunpowder, primer and explosives, including the use of the bullet comparison microscope. It also deals with the principles in the microscopic and macroscopic
examination of firearm evidences and the preparation of reports for legal proceedings in the solution of cases involving fire arms.
IV. Course Objectives:
A. General Objective: By the end of the semester, students are expected to be able to discuss the fundamental, concepts, and the science behind the identification of
firearms and ammunitions as well as the proper procedures on how to handle such evidences material to solve crimes involving firearms.
B. Specific Objectives:
Cognitive:
1. Know the definition, history and branches of firearms and tool marks identification.
2. Learn the origin, history , classifications and components of firearms and ammunition
3. Gain knowledge on the use of different scientific equipment used in firearms and tool marks identification
Affective:
1. Appreciate the importance of firearms and tool marks identification as part of the search for truth and pursuit of justice.
2. Recognize the value of handling firearms properly and safely.
3. Realize the worth of properly recognizing, collecting, marking, preserving, and transmitting firearms and fired evidences.
Psychomotor:
1. Perform the proper and fast process of disassembling, and assembling of caliber.45 pistol and m16 rifle.
2. Execute thorough crime scene search for pieces of firearms and fired evidence.
3. Write a comprehensive firearms and tool marks examination report
