The concrete analysis program currently produces the following force curves and envelopes for design
purposes for each beam. These are later combined in load combinations, including lateral forces from
RAM Frame, in RAM Concrete Beam.

Dead Load Curve (no skip loading)

Live Load Envelope (including all Live Load Reduction and Skip Loading Consideration)

a.

Adjustment for Chinese Design

Adjustments are ONLY performed if the beam is a FRAME beam.

For EACH Load Case (ie load of specific type: DL, LL reducible, un-reducible etc, applied to specific beam/s)
perform the following adjustments for determining a specific beams forces along its length.

Determine IF for the specific load case the beam is supporting load along its length. If not
then no adjustment is made.
If load is applied along the member for this load case then we will adjust the MOMENT force
at each station along the beam based on its distance from the beam ends and the assigned
Plastic Redistribution Factor at each end of the beam. The resulting curve will be added and
enveloped with other load case results as currently performed. See example below.

Example:

User assigned Plastic Redistribution Factor of 0.9 to left end and 0.5 to right end of beam.
Load is directly applied along the length of the member for the load case under
consideration.
Unadjusted Moment Curve along Member

250

-300
-400

The adjusted moment at start will be calculated as 0.9 * -400 = -360 (reduce by 40)
The adjusted moment at end will be calculated as 0.5 * -300 = -150 (reduce by 150)
Along the length the adjustment will vary linearly from 40 to 150 depending on the location
of the station (section) we are calculating moments at. At the center of the beam the
adjustment will therefore be 95 for an adjusted value of 345.

39

150

345

-360

-150

The adjustment will be made irrespective of the sign or magnitude of the moments along the
beam. That is, even if the entire beam is initially subject to negative moment the beam
moments will still be adjusted along their length.
