Description:
This is an image using one shape.
Date:

Course/Instructor:
COMM 130

Programs:
Illustrator
Objective:
To create a visual appealing image using one shape.
Process:
I started using circles to create different types of flowers. Then I turned
a flower into a more abstract type of flower and used dotted lines as
their stems. Using different shades of grey gives it a more interesting a
3D effect.

business card

Stationery for a business
Date:

Course/Instructor:
COMM 130

Programs:
Illustrator
InDesign
Objective:
To create business stationary for a company.
Process:
Once I had decided on the theme for the business, I Googled different
types of logos, letter heads and business cards for that type of business.
In this case I searched for chocolate, cupcakes, candy and different
dessert businesses. After getting a feel for what the general direction
they have all gone in, I grabbed some paper and started to sketch some
ideas. My original company name was Silver Blossom. After I got knee
deep, I realized that I didnt like the name or the way the design was
going. So I decided to just use my daughters name and started again.
Everything seemed to move a lot smoother from then on out. When the
sketches were complete, I started to bring those ideas into Illustrator
where I created the logo. Once the logo was finished, I moved into
InDesign where I started playing with the layout of the letter head and
business card.

Programs:
Illustrator
Notepad ++
Objective:
To create a portfolio website.
Process:
I took the CSS code and HTML document that we were assigned
the week before and put my own spin on it. Since I already had the
foundation the process was simpler. I started with the content. I wrote
up the information that I wanted under which section. Then I placed it
into the HTML document and made sure that the format was correct.
That was when the fun could begin. I started by changing the colour
of the font in the logo to match the violet and brown (neutral) colour
scheme. Then I change the font to a serif font so that it would not clash
with the script in the logo. Following that change, I changed the colour
of the font to a neutral brown. Once all of that was done, I played
around with what I wanted to background to look like. I started with a
solid colour and then thought it was would be fun to add in the awning
in the background.

InDesign
Objective:
To learn how to create an over lapping document and text wrapping
using InDesign.
Process:
I started with searching for different brochure layouts so I could get a
feel of what was out there. Then I decided to pick a topic and look at
those types of brochures. I grab some ideas and started playing around
with different designs and layouts. After a few attempts and a complete
redo of the first draft, I settled with this layout. The tools that were
used was MS word to make sure that I had the right amount of words
and grammar was correct. I used InDesign to create the layout for the
brochure and Photoshop to edit the Holland image on the first page.

Programs:
Illustrator
InDesign
Objective:
To create a logo for a company.
Process:
I have been working on designing a website for my friends salon, so
I have already been looking at different logos and what colour and
style works best for her business. I started the process by looking
at other hair dressing salon logos, then I used Google images and
Pinterest to gather raw images that had elements I liked and that suite
the client. Then I proceeded to play around with some sketches of
different designs. Finally, I put the sketches into Illustrator and traced
them using the pen tool. Once the design was completed, I deleted my
sketch, added some text and played around with the design to blend in
smoothly with the text.

photodesign
Description:
This project was all about working with Photoshop and creating a visual
pleasing design.
Date:

Course/Instructor:
COMM 130

Programs:
Photoshop
Objective:
To learn how to sharpen pictures in Photoshop.
Process:
The tools that were used was a Nikon D40X camera to take the picture
of the Salt Lake Temple at sunrise, Photoshop and Pinterest (looking for
a good quote). I started by taking a gazillion or two pictures of different
areas at different times of the day. Then I played around with a handful
of them in Photoshop tweaking the colours, sharpening the image,
etc. Then I played with a background design and added some words.
I had a lot of problems with adding a design and words to the picture
until I started playing with this image. Once I started with this image,
it felt like everything just fell into place. I wanted to put the Stand
in Holy places quote on, but then I stumbled across this quote and
thought it was perfect.

montage
Description:
This assignment was combining two (or more) pictures to create a
seamless montage in Photoshop with a spiritual message.
Date:

Course/Instructor:
COMM 130

Programs:
Photoshop
Objective:
To learn how to layer images in Photoshop.
Process:
I started by looking for little spiritual quotes that I liked and could
possibly use. Since I started this assignment during a quiet moment at
work, the only pictures I had were the ones that I had taken a few days
earlier. So I began trying to match the right pictures together with the
right quote attached. When I found the quote I used, I knew exactly
what pictures I wanted to use. The programs used were Photoshop for
the design and Pinterest for the quote.

event ad

Date:

Course/Instructor:
COMM 130
Emily Kunz
Programs:
MSWord
Objective:
To create an event ad using MSWord.
Process:
The process started with doing research on different types of event ads.
Once I had an idea of different event ad layouts, I sketched out a few
ideas. Once the sketches were completed, I started to convert them
into the design in Word. When the basic layout was there, I found some
pictures that went with the event and placed them. The layout changed
a little to accommodate the pictures added. Finally I added some bats
to give it a final touch.

flier
Description:
This is a black and white/grey-scale flyer.
Date:

Course/Instructor:
COMM 130
Emily Kunz
Programs:
InDesign
Objective:
To create a black and white flyer.
Process:
I started with the trusty Google image search for suggestions and ideas
with layouts for flyers. Once I had collected about 10 sample flyers, I
pulled out a sketch book and played around with some flyer ideas. I
gathered my top 4 sketch ideas and submitted them. I started playing
with different design embellishments in Adobe Illustrator and then
realized that I did not like any of them. With a limited amount of time,
I opened InDesign and started with the basics. I added a few different
pictures, copied the text body in and started to play around with
different placements and grey-scale colour until I found a design layout
that I liked. I submitted that for critic, then started to make suggested
changes. When I started to play with those suggested changes, a whole
new perceptive opened up to produce the final flyer.
