Event Ad:
October 12, 2014

Description: A color, full bleed event ad for a zombie hunt fundraiser for the D.A.R.E. program, using only Microsoft word
and a scanner.
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): I started off with my image,
and I scanned it, cropped out the blurry edges, and saved the
cropped image in the highest resolution.I did a bit of sketching
to see where I wanted to lay out my text boxes, and what colors
I wanted to use. I opened the image on word, added a filter to
the enlarged image, added a couple of shapes, and text. Then I
edited the text boxes and shapes, and added the color.
Scanned images used, sources, original sizes, location of scanner used: The Walking Dead Compendium Volume 2. 12in. x
9in. original size. Spori lab room 014 scanner.

Montage:
October 26, 2014

Description: A thought-provoking montage using the layering

and blending of three images and typography.
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, Steps taken while designing): I began with the bottom image which was the one of the city lights.
I used the levels option to darken the image and then I opened
two more tabs on Photoshop and selected the Earth image. I
used the lasso tool to select as much of just the Earth as I possibly could, feathered it at 40% and dragged the selection into
the city image. Then I added a mask to the layer, selected the
brush tool, and began to erase the black ring around the Earth.
I then opened the Mars image, selected lasso tool, bumped up
the feathering to 47% and then I used the lasso tool to select
only the land part of that image. I again dragged the selection
into the city lights image, placed it down, added a mask, and
lightened the feathered part a bit more so the city was more
visible. I added the text inside three different text boxes so the
sizes were easier to adjust. The program I used to create this
montage was Photoshop.

Logos:
November 2, 2014

Description: Three different logos for the clothing and shoe

company Bear Paw
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): I began by sketching out different types of logos, and choosing a color scheme for them all.
For the first logo, I used the ellipse tool multiple times and manipulated each shape into the one I wanted with the pen tool.
For the second logo, I used the pen tool to make the shape of
the bear. Through trial and error I created and deleted anchors
to create the right curves. Then I filled in the design with color.
For the last one, I began with the text. I changed the color from
black, added the two lines at the ends of the B and the W. Then
I used the pen tool to create the bear scratches. I added the
text to the first two logos lastly. The program I used to create
these logos was Adobe Illustrator.

Stationary and Business Card:

November 9, 2014

Description: Matching letterhead and business card designs,

using an originally created logo for the company Bear Paw
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): I created the logo using the pen
tool on Adobe Illustrator. I began with an outline of the body,
then I filled it in, and got rid of the stroke. I added the text in
a text box. For the letterhead, I took the logo text and the bear
from the logo and separated them on opposite sides of the document. Then I applied the rule of thirds by adding the lines on
the left side. The business card I created in Adobe InDesign. I
began with a blue rectangle, and added the logo. for the back,
I minimized the logo, and moved the logos text to make room
for the contact information.

Photo Design:
October 18, 2014

Description: Project to help develop photography and image editing skillls, and photoshop design skills.
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): I first chose one of the images
I had taken for class, and I edited it on Photoshop. After I had
done this, I set to sketching what I wanted the layout of my
design to look like. I wanted the cats leading focus to be a big
part of my design, so I was very aware of incorporating that
into the shapes I wanted to use. The color scheme came next.
I looked at the FOCUS color wheels and compared the red
and purple colors that my image had to the color schemes that
those colors could fit into. I worked with the bright red and a
Halloween-themed color scheme. I chose analagous, because it
had purple, and red, I added some violet in there, as well, to tie
the scheme together. I used the eye dropper tool several times
in my design to make sure the colors I used in the text and
shapes matched the image perfectly.

Flier:
October 5, 2014

Description: Flier promoting a leadership educational conference for recent graduates.

Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): I started off by making a few
different sketches of how I wanted the layout of the flier. Then
I selected one sketch to work with, and I selected a few images
from the choices I was given to go with my design. After this, I
began to put the layout of my sketch into InDesign. In this program, I added different shades and fonts to add contrast and
flow.

Web Page:
November 23, 2014

Description: A website created to showcase a logo I designed for

the company Bear Paw.
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): I began with a demo CSS file
and a HTML file. I opened both files in Notepad++, then I
linked the HTML to the CSS file. I added several things to
each file. I embedded an image of my logo into the html. I also
changed the fonts, and the colors by opening up my logo in
Photoshop and using the eyedropper tool to add the exact colors of the logo into the website. I also used an HTML validator
online to make sure there were no problems with my code.
