The teach procedure is also

very simple. All
you have to do is to
press the teach button
once upon presenting the empty
and the filled container states.
Then simply select the sensors
operating mode and thats it.

Despite the complex operating

principle, installation and set-up of
our levelprox sensors are childs
play. TURCK offers two different
mounting kits for each of the sensor versions (welding, adhesive or
retainer strap mounting). The transducer head is spring supported to
ensure constant optimal pressure
force. The silicone gel OKS110 is
used as a coupling medium. The
ultrasound gel easily attaches to
the container wall, retains its elasticity even when exposed to high
temperatures, and is physiologically
safe.

INSTALLATION AND SET-UP

levelprox NON-INVASIVE LEVEL DETECTION IN METAL CONTAINERS

Function principle

Housing styles

levelprox sensors generate a high

frequency ultrasonic pulse which is
coupled to the container wall from
the outside using a coupling gel.
This pulse propagates within the
wall and the liquid and is reflected
by several surfaces.
The reflection characteristics
indicate whether there is liquid at
the sensor level.

The M30 version has been

designed for
all kinds of level sensing tasks in
mechanical engineering, but also
for less complex food industry
applications.
The sensor is
mounted
easily and cost effectively. The
teach procedure is initiated by a
separate teach line, which is connected to the power supply via a
PLC or our teach adapter VB2-SP1
(see drawing overleaf).

Operating modes
In the reverberation mode, the
reflections of the inner wall adjacent
to the sensor are evaluated (see
drawing). Gas bubbles or particles
in the liquid and installations such
as stirring devices hardly affect the
sensor; yet if the container is
empty, no residues should adhere
to the container wall. Should this
not be avoidable, we recommend
the echo mode (see drawing). In
this mode, the echo of the opposing inner wall is evaluated. Since
the sound has to traverse the container twice, the liquid should preferably be homogeneous and free
of contamination. Built-in fixtures
are admissible, provided they act
as a reflective surface.

Reverberation mode
The T50 sensor is particularly suited to applications in the food and
pharmaceutical industry.
The sensor is mounted
with Tri-clamp connections typically used in
these sectors. The clamp
adapter is either welded or
adhered to container wall.
The sensor is then inserted
into the adapter, sealed
with the clamping seal and
finally fixed in position with
the clamping collar. These
standard mounting accessories are available as a complete
mounting kit.

Our levelprox sensors LPRE-T50...

and LPRE-M30... may be operated
in both modes, thus ensuring optimum and reliable sensor function in
all applications.
