TECHNOLOGY

Renewable energy or Renewable energy power is energy gathered

from sources that naturally replenish themselves, including sunlight (solar),

water, wind and geothermal heat. These sources are replenished as fast as

they are used. Renewable energy technologies can help contribute to a clean

and secure energy for future use in the world. Wind energy in New Zealand

forms less than one percent (1%) of its annual production. This energy is

harnessed to drive generators that produce electric power. Countries such as

Iceland get as much as 99% of their power from renewable energy sources

(Anissimov, Michael, 2010). Countries like Iceland have begun to take

advantage of the use of renewable resources because they do not contribute

to solving global warming. New Zealand has large renewable energy

resources for its population, supplying up to 70% of electricity and nearly a

quarter of all our energy (Hollis, Michele, 2008).

COUNTRY

New Zealand is very rich in renewable resources more than several

other developed countries. It boasts of the best wind and solar renewable

resources. Both wind and solar energy are sustainable and clean sources of

energy that contributes to the New Zealand’s economy. Wind energy forms

less than one percent (1%) of annual energy production. By 2004 less than

two percent (2%) of homes had solar water-heaters. The numbers has been

increased dramatically over the years. New Zealand’s renewable resources

have been improving over the years and the total advantage that these

resources have on the country is only something that one can smile about.

New Zealand is a very low populated country that has many natural

resources that people use not only for recreation but for energy. Their

landscape consists of everything from mountains and forests to volcanoes.

Water is one of New Zealand’s most abundant resources.

TEAM LEADER

Robert Baldwin will be the team leader. Matt, will be responsible for making
final editorial changes and submitting the weekly assignment.

RESOURCES

We have found several moderately large research documents relating to

renewal energy in New Zealand. The New Zealand Geothermal Energy
Association has five publications with facts and resources for our paper. We
also have found articles on other types of renewable energy.
