Moving through the agenda, the board
heard a report on the disclosure of board
training received by members for 20132014. As of the meeting, only board member Julie Gamez has exceeded the mark
for required hours, while all other members remain deficient. The board noted
that they will all exceed the requirements
before the end of the year.
Next, Lawrence presented an explanation of TASB Policy DEA Local, which
is an amendment to the previous school
policy and allows hourly district employees who work more than the maximum of
sixty hours of overtime in a year to roll
the difference over to the next. The district has been allowing employees to do so
for years now, but this proposed amendment will make it official district policy.
In their next order of business the board
decided to forgo reviewing the Superintendents District Goals until his evaluation next month. They plan to incorporate
them into the evaluative process.
As the meeting drew to a close, board
members elected to allow Shiner ISD to
accept bids for the lease of oil and gas on
1.00 acre of land located on the Joshua
Dowling Survey A-149, Lavaca County,
Texas. He will prepare and present his
finding at next months meeting so that
the board can take action on the matter.
Superintendent Lawrence then spoke
to the board about the TASB Buy Board
proposal to retrofit Shiners K-12 lighting. The project will cost $101,000, but
it will save the school around $10,000
per year. The board decided to table
the matter until next meeting, at which
time they can decide to add it to the
discussion of future facilities and upgrades.
That concluded the evenings agenda, as
the board decided to forgo executive session and adjourned the meeting.

bers? You made a comment of these mothers being on talk shows. These women are
on these shows in order to tell the world
of the nonsense that the police or getting

it was black on black crime one would be
in the court room facing prison time. Not
free to get speeding tickets in Dallas! Nor
to walk away as if nothing happened.
The appearances on the show allows
these black women to give an example of
how the cops done wrong while under

that says an police men can kill cause of a

their are on talk shows. As wellas the outrage. Outrage you say. Nowadays people
are doing as they damn well please. Law
enforcement killing teens because of skin
color, clothes, and supposedly threatening
demeanor. Editors printing insults, your
absolutely right take some responsibility
for yourself, Mr. Mundy. The outrage yes
it over the fact that two young black teens
was killed becuase of their color, clothes
and demeanor. By unlawful policemen.
In summary Mr. Mundy lets reflect back
to the rights and liberties that the U.S. citizens have in todays economy. With that
being said I reckon both these black teens
had the right to dress as he wanted, to listen to whatever type of music he chose.

took her to the emergency room at Gonzales Memorial Hospital for an examination.
Camarillo questioned the girl again the
next day and she told him she had gone to a
house and consumed alcohol. After learning the location of the house, Camarillo
obtained some names from the girl and
began an investigation based on her statement, Taylor said.
The girl was then taken to Normas
House for a forensic interview, where she
admitted to having a drink from a bottle
of liquor. She also claimed to not remember much after that. When the interviewer
asked if anything sexual in nature had hap-
court decided to table discussion and action until next months meeting, at which
time they will decided how to change the
policy to eliminate this loophole and keep
Gonzales County citizens from having to
pay the difference in the long run. Following along the tabling theme, the court
also postponed discussion of the policy
and payment of salaried positions within
the County until next meeting because the
consultant who was supposed to explain
and help with the situation was unable to
attend Wednesdays meeting.
Commissioners Court began to wrap
up with members deciding to amend the
current retiree health insurance policy for
elected officials. The previous policy stated that the county would pay for retirees
insurance if they had served 16 years or
more and were 59 or older. The new policy
only requires 12 years and a minimum age
of 55. Court members also appointed new
members to the Gonzales County Historical Commission for the 2015-6 year.
Members include: Glenda Gordon (Chairperson), Marilyn Qualls, Kimberly Fairchild, Wain Fairchild, Sandra Wolff, Bubba
Wolff, Bradely Avant, Glen Sachtleben,
Brent Baker, Valerie Reddell, David Horton, Tina Mills, and Lynn Gescheidle.
After some financial business, including
considering and approving budget amendments and approving bills for the month
of November, the court reached the end of
the mornings agenda and adjourned.

Cuero Livestock
Market Report
Cuero Livestock Market Report on December 12, 2014, had 1,326 head.
The last sale of 2014 will be 12-19-14.
Had 202 cows and 25 bulls. The packer
market continues to hold onto the gains of the
last several weeks. Demand remains high and
the supply continues to be small resulting in a
strong market.
The calf market is a little sticky as there is
just a lower tone to the overall market. This is
in line with expectations over the last week.
Still a strong market, just at a lower level. In
some classes as much as 2 to 4 cents lower. One
comment is that after several record weeks in a
row, the buyers are regrouping and re-accessing
their position.

A familiar presence in
the Gonzales Independent
School District athletic office is calling it a day after
three decades of tireless
work and extreme dedication.
Athletic secretary Anita
Dement will be retiring
this week after a long tenure at the post.
Dement has spent 30
years working for Gonzales
Independent School District. She spent the first 17
years working in the high
school office before coming
over to the athletic department as secretary and serving for 13 years, working
behind the scenes to make
sure the student-athletes,
coaches and athletic trainer
have everything they need
to keep the Lady Apaches
and Apaches sports program running smoothly.
Dement has worked
with athletic director/head
football coaches Charlie

After five years at Luling, including three as athletic director and head football coach, Colby Hensley has decided
to step down from his current position.
Hensley was very thankful for having the opportunity
to head up the Eagles athletic program for three years and
will miss all of the folks he interacted with.
The people have been wonderful, he said. I will miss
the students, the coaches and everyone else in the school
district and the community.
Durning his tenure as athletic director, the athletic program has made lots of strides.
The Luling win over Odem in 2012 during the postseason was the first time in a while that the Eagles football
team has won a playoff game.
Luling won its first playoff game in about 30 years,
Hensley said. And we have qualififed for the playoffs for
three straight seasons.
Other athletic programs have had success in the last several years.
Every year Hensley has been at Luling, the Eagles boys
cross country team has won a state title. The track team did
well at state last year and the baseball team is a constantt
member of the playoffs.
The improvements have not just come in the forms of
playoffs,wins and trophies.
Our athletes have gotten bigger, stronger and faster,
Hensley said.

MOULTON The
Luling Eagles took plenty
of shots in their Moulton
Klassic tournament game
against Cuero on Thursday.
The shots just did not
make it into the basket and
the Gobblers came away
with a 57-38 victory.
Our shots were just not
falling. We were getting
plenty of looks, Luling
head coach Cooper Haralson said.
Luling also struggled a
little on the defensive side
Our transition defense
was not where we wanted it
to be today, Haralson said.
The loss shines a little bit
of a light on what Luling
will need to continue improving
Overall, it was frustrating but it shows us what we
need to work on, he said.
The Gobblers came out
strong at the start with an
8-0 lead, getting buckets by
Grant Diebel and E.J. Johnson.
Luling got within 14-4
as Devin Spurlock made
a basket and Daryl Carter
converted a free throw and
Cuero capped the quarter
with a three-point basket
by Diebel to lead 17-4.
To start the second quarter, Carter assisted on the
jumper from Briar Bullock
as Luling got within 17-6.
Cuero responded with a
9-0 run.
Luling then scored seven
of the next eight points
with a Carter bucket and
two field goals by Reece
Franks, including one off a
steal.

My mother and father were never rich in the monetary sense, but were more
than rich in their attention to responsibilities as parents,. I never doubted for
a moment that Iw as loved, even when they meted out well-deserved punishment.
My fondest memories of the Christmas season do not include elaborate
presents.
One of my first Christmas memories must have been in the early to mid1930s. I can remember talk of times being bad. I also recall a man showing up
at our back door pleading for a job of any kind to feed his family. We had no
money either, but my parents always had a garden, ensuring enough food on
the table. Mother was so touched that she told him she did have a small job
he could do, but she could only pay him in home-canned vegetables. The man
was so grateful ... that I do recall, and his self-respect was intact by being able
to work for the food.
I mention this to let you know times were not easy then. Mother made do at
Christmas and there on our mantel above the fireplace was a row of the most
beautiful white-tissue wrapped presents to be given to friends and neighbors.
White tissue, enclosing home-made candy, tied with inexpensive red ribbon.
To a child of only a few years old they were magical.
When many years later I mentioned this to my mother, she told me that was
the only thing they could afford to give.
Later, as family finances improved, gifts were more expensive, but somehow
my memories of them have blurred and those tissue wrapped-in-love presents
hold a place in my heart to be treasured as long as I retain memory.
Following Christmas times I always knew my father, who was not a great observer of holidays, would happily bring home a big turkey for the one holiday
he did observe. Each Christmas time this meant, for mother, an all-night marathon to get the turkey prepared for the hand-made stuffing this following
days of baking and other cooking for the big Christmas dinner.
My mother and father are both gone now, and do you know, I dont remember much of what we didnt have but my heart is filled with heart-felt thanks
to God for having parents whose main goal was to carry out their responsibilities with love.
They cared enough tyo correct me when I was wrong and to talk WITH me,
not AT me, explaining honor was to earn your own living, not to envy people
who had more material things, but to be happy for them and to be content
with what I had.I have a deep respect for them, realizing it was not easy, but
they never complained about raising a depression baby born in 1928, but
always made me feel like I was a blessing and they were fortunate to have me.
Therefore, one of my most perfect gifts is from God, for giving me parents
who really cared: truly the gift that keeps on giving for generations to come.
