We still have the compulsory skills?

T he harder business as usual world we have become used t o is no longer


sat isf ying our need f or closeness, at t ent ion and personal cont act . More and
more we are looking f or ways t o express t he f eelings we have been t rained t o
bot t le up f or so many years.
Disciplines such as mindf ulness, yoga, alt ernat ive and compliment ary
medicines, are t eaching us skills t hat will help bring us back t o a more
relat ionship- orient ed world, while sof t skills and t he use of conscious body
language are again becoming int egral t o our healt h, success and peace of
mind.
T he challenge is t hat many of us alive t oday never learned t hese skills, or we
have f orgot t en t hem because t hey have been suppressed f or so long. We
have been t rained or condit ioned t o ignore our f eelings in order t o perf orm
bet t er. Some have even had t heir abilit y t o f eel medicat ed away t o allow
t hem t o cope wit h t heir current sit uat ion. Societ y in general has become
more concerned wit h t he lat est work project , f ashion, gadget or gossip t o
leave lit t le t ime t o care about consciously t aking invent ory of our f eelings.
T he result is t hat we have become used t o living unconsciously.
T his is producing dire consequences t o how we relat e t o each ot her and t o

t he world.
On t he business side, some leading decision makers are beginning t o not ice a
diminishing rat e of ret urn on t echnological invest ment . More and more are
st art ing t o look seriously at using sof t skills t o lower worker st ress,
communicat e bet t er, increase perf ormance, and creat e more loyal
relat ionships.
Could t his be a t rend t hat is wort h invest igat ing f urt her?
How can we prof it f rom increasing our sof t skills set as well as our abilit y t o
use t hem?

Lack of trust, the current situation


We have not so f ar complet ed t he most dest ruct ive cent ury in hist ory. Some
est imat es put last cent urys loss of human lif e, due t o war alone, at over 100
million souls. T his does not count all t he men, women and children who died
due t o st arvat ion, drought or any number of diseases we now know how t o
prevent .
It was also t he cent ury where t he most -ever mat erial wealt h was creat ed and
many would say covet ed.
