Nathan Tombo, James Kane Lead Youth Travel

By Vince Albrecht
OAKLAND, NJ- There arent
enough superlatives to describe the
telephone numbers posted by Stan
Niemiecs young bowlers in the
leagues get-together at Holiday
Bowl. The battered pins may soon
need to be replaced by management,
having been floored mercilessly to the
tune of thirteen 600+ sets and fortyone deuces.
Leading the onslaught were St Joseph
[Montvale] sophomore Nathan Tombo
and Paramus Catholic senior James
Kane, both with 768 threesomes.
Nathan, who flirted twice with perfection his final two games, splintered the

maples with 237-277-254 while James

245-267-256 obliterated the helpless
plastic-coats. The 15-year-old Tombo lit
a fire under his Bowler City III mates as
they out-distanced a game but overmatched Fair Lawn quartet, 3175-2900.
Anchor Nick Reyes fired 234-209-634,
Derek Lewandowski 212 and Tiffany
Sucero 192 in BC IIIs sweep of the
contest. Fair Lawn, motivated by
anchor Steve Plaszkys masterful 218216-256-690 and Madison Perrys 203,
came close to salvaging the middle
game, dropping the nail-biter, 1003995. In the other high-scoring
encounter, Kanes super set didnt
detract from his teammate Kyle
Schellberg who pounded out numbers
of his own, 234-214-269-717 as
Bowler City I swept past T-Bowl, 30942854. The latter battled, posting decent
totals as Matt Morris scored 203-580
and Pat Mayer 204-576.
In other action, Erik Kattermann
blasted a closing 279, the afternoons
best single, and finished with 675,
leading Boonton to a hard-earned five
points against talented North
Arlington, 3027-2939. Erik had support from his squad as Sean McGuire
excelled with 212-221-626, Adam

Gelvan 204-190 and Drew Gille 184.

Pacing the formidable North
Arlington quartet were Chris Liloia
237-221-650, Tyler Keefe 232-225649 and Haley Hassan 205.
The Holiday entries played each
other, with defending champ Holiday
I gaining four points with one-pin and
nineteen-pin triumphs while Holiday
II came away with a strong second
game and total wood, 2784-2740.
Triggers for the winners were David
Neil 215-194 and Nick Cilento 191193. Rolling well for Holiday II were
DePaul senior Joe Malyack 256-248664, Tom Chamberlain 202-204 and
Justin Milligan 191. Closing out the
session, Lodi enjoyed its best outing
of the season, sweeping seven points
from Bowler City II, 2991-2809
behind Nick Ferrante 205-201-604,
Steve Kropilak 209, Louis Ferrante
202 and Chris Navarro 198.
Delivering fine numbers for BC II
was Dean Edwards 222-204-606.
League-leading Montvale put together a strong enough effort to earn seven
points from the vacancy primarily
due to Matt Russell 213-220-604 and
Dan Sproviero 213-590.

Frank Magyar, Nick Reyes Pace Youth Travelers

By Vince Albrecht

WAYNE, NJ- In the Stan Niemiec

Youth Travel players inaugural
appearance at T-Bowl, there were
eight 600s posted along with
thirty-nine deuces. This impressive scoring display was led, not
surprisingly, by Holiday Is
smooth anchor Frank Magyar
who, for the third straight week,
had high threesome tossing 218193-258-669. With Nick Cilento
202-214 and Ryan McGuire 188197 chipping in, Holiday I managed to earn four points, taking
two close games from North
Arlington. The latter prevailed in
the finale, 1011-908 and salvaged
three points by taking the wood
point as well, 2823-2742.
Tallying big for North Arlington
were Tyler Keefe 248, Chris
Liloia 203 and Haley Hassan 202.
Bergenfield junior Nick Reyes
caught fire after a below-par
opener to scorch the maples with
254-255-667 to spark Bowler
City III to five points against TBowl. Also rolling well for the

winners were Tiffany Sucero 204,

Greg Khan 202-192 and Gianni
Calzadilla 197. T-Bowls Joshua
Spiegel delivered the afternoons
only triple deuce 202-237-223 for
a 667 and Matt Morris added a
202 as they both were instrumental in the teams thrilling 998-960
second game win.
Behind a season-best performance from Montville senior Sean
McGuire 236-221-650, Boonton
sailed past Fair Lawn, 29682757, securing five points in the
process. Sean had plenty of help
from his teammates, Karl
Kattermann 211-213-607, Matt
Chang 199 and Drew Gille 191.
Igniting Fair Lawns competitive
spirit were two 13-year-olds,
Nick Greco hitting 223 and
Hunter
Perry
211
with
Ridgewood freshman Matt Myers
adding a 216.
In one of the days finest matches, Holiday II held off Bowler
City II, 2895-2853. Lighting up
the pins for the victors were Tom

Chamberlain 202-235-625, Craig

Oriente 214, Al Chamberlain 201
and Justin Milligan 190.
Powering the BC II quartet was
13-year-old Arielle Wallace with
a pair of 208 games while newcomer Matt Burzynski struck
gold with 213-214 and anchor
Dean Edwards contributed 203197.
Lodi turned back pace-setting
Montvale, 2773-2743, capturing
five points after dropping the
opener. Nick Ferrante figured out
the lanes big time after a forgettable first game and charged back
with194-223 to lead the Lodi
squad. For Montvale, Joseph
Hammer Mahoney blasted a
huge 232 and anchor Matt Russell
maintained his 200+ average with
a steady 202-202-198-602.
Rounding out the days action,
Bowler City I rode Anthony
Russos 224, Janina Santoros 215
and Kyle Schellbergs 213-212614 to a five point win against the
vacancy.
