IMPACT OF GLOBAL WARMING AND WATER ENVIRONMENT

On December 1, we had a public lecture on Impact of Global Warming and Water
Environment which was delivered by Norio Sugiura. According to him, global warming and
climate change refer to an increase in average global temperatures. Natural events and human
activities are believed to be contributing to an increase in average global temperatures. This is
caused primarily by increases in greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2). A
warming planet thus leads to a change in climate which can affect weather in various ways.
As explained by the US agency, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
(NOAA), there are 7 indicators that would be expected to increase in a warming world for
example sea surface temperature, temperature over oceans, sea level, ocean heat content,
humidity, tropospheric temperature, and temperature over land and 3 indicators would be
expected to decrease for example glaciers, snow cover and sea ice.
There is phenomenon between public hazard and climate change. For example, there
are some cases of damage to human and animals caused by toxic blue-green algae. As such,
in United Kingdom (1989), soldiers in training drank the water contaminated with algae in
reservoir after the canoe was overturned. After that, they had symptoms of vomiting,
diarrhoea and fever. It is said that 2 billion people on earth do not have safe water treatment
facility and 80% of disease in developing countries is caused by it. Waterborne disease can be
originated from infectious biological wastes that can cause cholera and typhoid or from
extreme water shortage causing diarrhoea, eye diseases and contagious disease. It can also
originate from aquatic organisms (Hematozoon disease, Fluke, Guinea worm), originate from
insects (Malaria, Filariasis, Dengue, Yellow fever, Japanese encephalitis, river blindness
disease) and originate from artificial water (Legionella).
Thus, to recover modernized society influenced by public hazard we should
implement the system which is to reuse system reconstruction and recycling system in
society. Furthermore, we have to reduce the greenhouse gas discharged from man-made
construction, and reduce the greenhouse gas by alternative (natural, recycling) energy
introduction.
In conclusion, the impact of global warming is really worry us. However
we can reduce global warming emissions and ensure communities have the resources they
need to withstand the effects of climate change. Our generous support helps develop sciencebased solutions for a healthy, safe, and sustainable future. Actions speak louder than words
when it comes to standing up for climate science.
