1. Overview
1.1. Background
War Child works with children who, as a result of conflict, live with a combination of
poverty, exclusion and insecurity. These children might include street children, children
conscripted into armed groups, detained children and children with special needs. Our
mission is to support and improve the care and protection of children and young people
who live with a combination of insecurity, poverty and exclusion in some of the worst
conflict-affected places. We look forward to a world in which the lives of children are no
longer torn apart by war. This is a vision that can only be realised through the collective
actions of children themselves, communities and their leaders, organisations like War
Child, governments and key decision makers.
War Child is implementing an emergency project with Syrian refugees in the North of
Jordan. The project focuses on working inside Zaatari camp, providing support to the
most vulnerable children and their caregivers. Special attention will be paid to the most
vulnerable and neglected group of children and youth inside the camp particularly on
issues dealing with child labour, children in conflict with the law, children with disabilities,
and girls in general.
1.2. Description of Role
War Child UK is recruiting a Project Officer for a temporary position (5 months) who will
take the lead in providing technical support and guidance in implementing and finalising
the current programme.
Were looking for a motivated and qualified individual who will support the
implementation of the project in these key areas:
Project Coordination: management of the project to ensure that it is implemented
in time due and according to budget.
Capacity building: Identify needs and build the capacity of community based
structures and volunteers in key Programme areas.
Monitoring and Evaluation: assist the Programme Manager to establish and
maintain monitoring and evaluation.
Supervision: Supervise the activities of community-based protection stakeholder in
Zaatari camp.
Compliance: Ensure compliance with donor and War Child UK requirements and
funding, including child protection policy and code of conduct for War Child staff
and all its partners.
1.3 Key responsibilities:

Enhance, quality and impact of War Childs programme

Ensure that the data has and will continue to be gathered in an appropriate manner to
complete the final report

Ensure data collected is managed and analysed appropriately

2. Job Description
2.1. Project Coordination:
Coordinate and supervise the implementation of activities in the field;
Ensure effective coordination of project activities with the partners in the field (UN
agencies and NGO);
Ensure compliance with the schedule of activities in the field;
Ensure the passage of information between volunteers and the Programme
Manager;
Provide logistical planning of the activities in collaboration with the Programme
Manager;
Organise and conduct a weekly volunteers meeting;
Supervise the database of the project and ensure that it is updated regularly and
appropriately;
Prepare weekly and monthly narrative reports in a timely and accurate manner;
Assist the Programme Manager to prepare, update and implement project work
plans on a monthly basis;
Supervise community awareness activities in Zaatari camp.
2.2 Monitoring and evaluation:
Establish a system to monitor activities;
Identify weaknesses of project activities and propose solutions to respond to them;
Report regularly on weekly team meetings to the Project Manager;
Assist the Programme Manager to develop a plan for monitoring and evaluation in
line with the reporting requirements of donors;
Assist the Programme Manager to facilitate internal and external evaluations of the
project, the use of these opportunities and to raise the achievement of documents,
challenges and learning opportunities;
2.3 Compliance:
Ensure compliance with the rules and regulations of War Child in all areas including
financial management, record keeping, purchasing;

Comply with financial, safety and child protection policies and procedures
of War Child UK, managed by the Programme Manager;
Ensure that receipts and supporting documents are provided to the Finance
Officer/Programme Manager in Amman, in accordance with the requirements of
War Child.
2.4 Community participation in Zaatari camp:
Ensure direct community involvement in the implementation of project activities;
Ensuring the representativeness of War Child in the intervention areas of the
project.

3. Essential Requirements
3.1. Experience

At least 3 years in project management in an emergency setting

Experience in child development and child protection

3.2. Expertise

Sound knowledge of participatory approaches

Excellent planning, organisational, analytical and report writing skills

Excellent computer skills: MS word, Excel and Power Point

Excellent written and verbal Arabic and English

3.3. Qualities

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Ability to listen to, interact with, and communicate clearly

Team player

Accurate and systematic

Commitment to War Childs aims, values and mission

4. Desirable

Experience in building partnerships and networking with relevant stakeholders and


other non-governmental organisations

Experience in using participatory approaches in working with children and youths

Knowledge and experience in Child Rights and Child protection

Although this position will ideally suit a candidate living in Jordan, War Child is willing
to consider applicants living outside Jordan, provided the candidate is qualified for the
job and is willing to accept the contractual terms (salary is equivalent to 13,000).
