Las organizaciones sociales no-estatales y la incidencia del parentesco. Indicios de su
presencia en contextos pre-estatales del Cercano Oriente y el Mundo Precolombino. El
parentesco como dinmica generadora de consensos y de conflictos intra-comunales. La
percepcin del no-pariente como enemigo. La guerra en las sociedades no-estatales. La
reconfiguracin del papel del parentesco en las sociedades estatales. El campesinado de
tiempos estatales en el Cercano Oriente Antiguo y el Mundo Precolombino. El papel del

Unidad III. Violencia y consenso en las organizaciones de base estatal
El surgimiento del Estado y la emergencia del monopolio legtimo de la coercin. Anlisis de
procesos de origen de Estados primarios. La expansin de lo estatal como proceso violento.
La guerra en las sociedades estatales. Las formas de legitimidad estatal. La estructuracin
de dispositivos poltico-administrativos de tipo estatal. El rol del funcionariado. Tcnicas de
control estatal: el papel de la escritura. La organizacin socioeconmica de los Estados
antiguos. La prctica de la tributacin como soporte material de la existencia estatal.
Sacralidad y poltica. Centralidad ceremonial, monumentalidad, dominio simblico. El
concepto de rey-dios.
Unidad IV. Violencia y consenso en las organizaciones de base patronal
El patronazgo como modo alterno de subordinacin sociopoltica. Los squitos de los lderes
y los mecanismos de subordinacin personal. Relaciones entre lites centrales y lites
regionales: cooptacin, emulacin, mecanismos informales de articulacin inter-lites. El
patronazgo como modo de establecer control poltico supra-territorial. Patronazgo y mundo
rural: relaciones entre lites locales y campesinado. Transformaciones en el mundo rural
como consecuencia de su integracin en dispositivos polticos de dominacin. El patronazgo
y el mbito csmico: su proyeccin en la caracterizacin del mundo de los dioses.
