Our comparison

You can compare lots of things with ancient writing, and realise how the times are
still similar. H1N1 is very similar to a piece of writing written by Plato, called
The Cave. In the cave, there are slaves chained down, staring at a wall.
Behind them, there is a small ledge, with a fire and philosophers, holding
image cut-outs in front of the fire, casting shadow in front of the slaves. The
slaves with H1N1, are the civilians, because they are the ones being fed the
information given to them, and have no reason not to. The philosophers are
the doctors. The doctors are the philosophers because they are the ones
doing all the talking. They are telling us what to believe in, what do to, and
how to do it. The cut-outs are simply the fake facts, developed from
conversation to conversation, changing all the time. The fire is also simply
stated, it’s the news that we are being told. The shackles the civilians wear
are the fear and anxiety, because it holds all of us from the truth, the sun.
The sun is the real facts; everything that we need to know about H1N1 would
be in comparison to the sun. The puppet masters, in reality, would be the
news reporters and the media. Because in the end, what do we do to find out
about this illness? We turn the television on and watch the news. They
could’ve gotten it from a doctor, but they decide if it’s broadcasted or not. In
finish, H1N1 is a perfect example of the caves that we all live in every single
day.

How can we test for the H1N1 pandemic flu?

With many people sick with the regular flu and the Swine Flu, it makes it hard for
doctors to test for it. They have a 10%-70% rate of finding it within someone.
Unlike what is being told from one person to the next, it’s not like you will all
people with H1N1 white as a ghost, dragging his legs, and is apparently a
walking sickness. Although people with premature disease can be affected
much more aggressively, the average case is only the sniffles and a
headache. So sure a couple of the tests have proven positive, but that
doesn’t mean you’re going to die, it means that if you have been a healthy
person then you will be fine in a week, living your normal life again. If you
think that you have the pandemic flu, H1N1, don’t panic, go get tested. Over
10% of the people who go in to the doctors, thinking they have H1N1 receive
rapidly negative tests results, telling them that they aren’t infected. Back in
November, none of the tests were approved by the FDA are able to
distinguish it from the other flu’s.
Introduction

Do you know anyone healthy that died from Swine Flu? Didn’t think so. April 2009, Mexican
authorities report they investigated a new strain of swine influenza. It has quickly spread in the
country, killing more than 100 people. This is the first time a global flu pandemic had been
declared in 41 years. But honestly, it’s not as bad as it seems. The media blows the influenza out
of proportion; they cover the truth by repeating the worst things that have become of it. The
things in which we call the truth, the main topics of the conversations, are actually mostly
rumours, facts modified to something more interesting and frightening. We all believe these
things, we are practically brainwashed, and therefore, Swine flu, or H1N1, which ever you like,
is thoroughly forced into Biases’.

Rumours

As we all know, many rumours are going around, some true, others, not so true. One of the not
so true ones are quote, “You will lose the ability to multiply.” Mr. Halladay. Another one, more
down to earth is the Guillain-Barre disease can be transferred from the vaccine. Guillain-Barré
syndrome is an uncommon disorder that causes damage to the peripheral nerves. These nerves
send messages from the brain to the muscles, instructing the muscles to move. It is usually
caused by an acute infectious process, which basically states that rare occurrence that can be
caused by any small infection and is not caused strictly by the vaccine. Another big rumour is
that the H1N1 could replace the Plague, one of history’s worst occurrences. Back in the 17th
century, we had less medical knowledge, and had no clue what was causing the Plague. By the
time we figured what was causing this deathly occurrence, many had died. H1N1 has already
been discovered and diagnosed with a vaccine.

Facts

Now when it comes down to it people having knowledge on this “pandemic” we could be way
more in control. Studies show that over 50% of people say they know the real fact which is great;
however, only around 25% actually are aware of what’s going on. That’s a drop of half of that
original 50%, we need to be more aware of what’s actually going on because it’s not as bad as it
really seems. If only 25% know what is going on then the majority of people are going to start
panicking and they’re starting to believe in the fake facts. However, the truth is that the H1N1
virus will not end the world it is just like any other flu. With some acceptations the H1N1 flu is
no different than the common flu with nausea, headaches, sore through, runny nose etc. As for
the vaccine yes there is a chance of being ill but so does any other flu vaccine, however the
chances are very slim.

Who is high priority to get the injection?

With the supposedly deadly-to-all sickness, everyone rushes to the clinics to get
their shot. But in reality, we should be patient and civilised. First, we should
do high priority, such as pregnant women, young children, and the elderly.
Pregnant women are priority because if they get sick with it, it will affect their
baby, who hasn’t even developed an immune system strong enough to do
anything about it. The elderly are also important and at the front of the line
to get the needle because either system has weakened, they cannot fight it
off as well as a 30 year old man or women. Young children are similar to the
baby’s inside the pregnant women, because they haven’t built up strong
enough defence systems to protect themselves from the H1N1. Unlike what
has been said, not everyone needs the shot, some people shouldn’t get the
vaccine, and other should. If you have a serious allergy to chicken eggs, have
severe reactions to influenza vaccinations, children under the age of 6
months or have a moderate to severe case of illness with the fever, you
shouldn’t get the vaccination; it’s not safe for your health. Although, as we
last mentioned, you may get the shot after you recover from the illness you
have. The previously mentioned high priority should obviously get the shot,
along with people who provide care for children (Day Care), health care
personnel, and people 6 months through 24 years of age. If we act civilised
with this illness, we can control it.

LIAV

Firstly, we must know exactly what the LIAV is. LIAV stands for “Live Attenuated
Influenza Vaccine”, but is more commonly known as the Nasal Spray. In the nasal
spray, there are live, weakened viruses that cannot grow at normal body
temperature. This vaccine was approved in 2003, and has been given tens of
millions of times in the United States. You may be asking, what’s the difference?
Well they are made the same way, but instead of containing 3 live weakened flu
viruses, the nasal spray contains weakened 2009 H1N1 viruses. The
recommendations for who can get this different type of vaccine are the same as the
ones for the needle, anyone healthy from 2-49 years old, not pregnant. Elderly and
extremely young youth shouldn’t get this vaccine, in risk of danger. The effects of
getting this vaccine are very similar to the ones of the needle, a runny nose,
wheezing, a headache, vomiting, muscles aches and a fever.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, H1N1 is not the “New Plague”; it’s simply another form of the flu. It
seems menacing because it’s new to us; we’ve never encountered something like it
before. In general people don’t like change, they like the way their life always was,
and with a new flu, it changes it. So it sparks fear, and rumours begin, and all of a
sudden, people are keeping their family inside their houses, dividing their rations.
The sale for hand sanitizer goes through the roof now during the flu season, and the
soap jars are always empty. What we’re trying to say is, that just like anything, this
is what you make it. If you want to live in fear all winter, and then believe the
rumours, believe that it is the worst thing that could have ever happened to the
planet. But if you want to enjoy the winters, shrug off the rumours, don’t believe
them, and just keep your hands clean and away from your face. The biases’ with the
Swine Flu/H1N1 is huge. We are practically panicking about it. Think about it, we
don’t race to the drug store when the regular flu comes around, try to think of
someone who worries about the bird flu, it’s the same concept.

The effects

Many people think it’s instant death if you catch H1N1, but in reality, you’ll feel very
similar to the way you would feel if you caught the regular flu. There are a wide
range of effects from this influenza, beginning at a fever, dry coughs, sore throat,
runny/stuffy nose, headaches, chills and fatigue. Some symptoms out of the
ordinary flu are muscle and joint aches, fatigue, possible vomiting and respiratory
problems. In any case, even though there are many effects, they don’t lead
up to instant death or even death at all. We aren’t all going to die from it.
To kill, it needs that extra little boost, a pre-existing condition, such as
Asthma. Not all the cases that take place are severe to no limit, many
aren’t. The most common, just like the regular flu, are mild cases. We
shouldn’t let this get out of hand more than it already is. We need to take
a step back, relax and rethink this virus. It’s as bad as we make it.

The Vaccine

Many people hesitated worldwide when the governments introduced the H1N1
vaccine. Many believed that we were practically helping the vaccine, by
injecting it directly into our bodies. What some people don’t understand is
that the “flu shot” is inactivated viruses. Meaning that the shot contains dead
particles of the influenza. Some believe it poisons the taker, putting
themselves at a higher risk than the people who took it. Instead of most of
the things the average person hears and believes about the shot, it simply
shows your body what to react to if you ever catch it. It was blown out of
proportion; many didn’t get it simply because they thought the injection was
in the nose. This wasn’t correct here in Canada. It’s not even the same thing,
the shot is in the arm, and the spray which goes up the nose is called a LIAV,
complete different processes that were combined into a horrific occurrence.
Just the rumours and things heard in the public have stopped people from
getting the vaccine, but turn around and get the regular flu shot without
flinching.
