wo nuns were shopping at a 7-Eleven. As they passed the beer cooler, one nun
said to the other, "Wouldn't a nice cool beer or
two taste wonderful on a hot summer evening?"
The second nun answered, "Indeed it would, Sister,
but I would not feel comfortable buying beer, since I
am certain it would cause a scene at the checkout
stand."
"I can handle that without a problem," the other nun
replied, and she picked up a six-pack and headed for
the check-out.
The cashier had a surprised look on his face when
the two nuns arrived with a six-pack of beer. "We use
beer for washing our hair," the nun said. "Back at the convent, we call it Catholic shampoo.
"Without blinking an eye, the cashier reached under the counter, pulled out a package
of pretzel sticks, and placed them in the bag with the beer. He then looked the nun straight
in the eye, smiled, and said, "The curlers are on the house.

Yes... It Was
Christmas Eve
O
nce there was a little boy who lived in the country. The family had to use an outhouse, and the
little boy hated it because it was so hot in the
summer and freezing cold in the winter and stank all the
time. The outhouse was sitting on the bank of a creek and
the boy was determined that on day he would push that
old outhouse straight into the creek.
One day after a spring rain, the creek was swollen so the
little boy decided today was the day to push the outhouse
into the creek.
He found a large stick and started pushing. Finally, the
outhouse toppled into the creek and floated away.
That night his dad told him they were going to the woodshed after supper. Knowing that meant a spanking, the little
boy asked why. The dad replied, "Someone pushed the outhouse into the creek today. It was
you, wasn't it son?"
The boy answered it
was.
Then
he
thought a moment and
said,
"Dad,
I
read
in
school today
that
George

chopped down a
cherry tree and
didn't get into
trouble because
he told the truth."
The dad replied,
"Well, son, George
Washington's father wasn't in
the cherry tree."

Huntington Harbour
Christmas Classic
Car Parade
he Huntington Harbour Car Club teamed up with the local chapter of Childrens Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) for the
first annual Huntington Harbour Classic Car Parade.
It was a gorgeous morning and the sun was shining upon the 73 prize
winning show cars led by a 100 year old 1914 fire engine chauffeured
by retired fireman, Jim Ellingson, wearing his genuine 1914 firemans
outfit.
Mr. and Mrs. Santa
Claus were in hot pursuit driving a original
World War II German
side car motorcycle
with Rudolf the Red
Nose DOG in the side
car followed by a
whimsical 1963 VW
Beetle with 8 foot tall
bag of Santas toys on
the roof swaying in the
breeze. Next in progression was the Huntington Harbour Car
Club founder, Robert
Maniaci, riding in a
1964 Cadillac low
rider convertible.
A series of 8 classic convertibles led by movie star
Robert Taylors custom built 1937 Packard Phaeton followed, carrying our much appreciated honored guests:
Matthew Harper, California State Assemblyman,
Jill Hardy, Huntington Beach Mayor
Jim Katapodis, Huntington Beach Mayor Pro Tem
Barbara Delgleize, HB City Council Member
Mike Posey, HB City Council Member
Erik Peterson, HB City Council Member
Sharie Sneddon, HB Boat Parade Grand Marshall
Susan Dill, CHOC Guild President and
Boris and Dorothy Ralphs of Harbour Lights Magazine
After our delicious lunch (Thank You Pete) we lined up and headed
towards the last two islands. After our final hour of parading we ended
up at another $5 million waterfront home for our much anticipated
Wine Down Party for wine, cheese and desserts as we enjoyed the sun
setting over the bay.
The cars were carefully lined up for a final photo shoot and video
that you may view at: If this sounds like fun to you and you have a
PASSION for classic cars we welcome new members. Please join us
by emailing the Huntington Harbour Car Club at:
hhcarclub@yahoo.com.
Ed Note: We salute all who participated and club founder Robert
Maniaci.... Thank you all for making this a better place to live, work
and play. TLN
Next in line was the famous BEERSTER, a 1936 Buick race car
which was a two time winner of the Great American Race.
Participates included 61 spectacular show winning automobiles such
as a Rolls Royce Corniche, 1937 Bentley, Lamborghini Diablo,
McLaren Mercedes, several Ferraris, 1937 Morgan, an El Dorado
Cadillac, Tiffany, 2015 Morgan, 1949 Studebaker, Alfa Romero, 17
different hot rods, a super special 1952 Ford low rider panel truck, and
11 Corvettes lead by an authentic 1967 Camero Indy Pace Car. The
parade was topped off by a genuine World War II 1943 Army Jeep.
The line of unique show cars began to tour the five Huntington Harbour Islands. After one hour, we made our morning refueling stop
for mimosas, pastries and Christmas carols at a spectacular $5 million
water front home courtesy of Mr. Richard Ashby. Upon arrival the
guests were warmly greeted by CHOCO, the Bear, from Childrens
Hospital.
We then continued cruising the islands for another hour and made
our scheduled lunch stop at Buon Gusto Italian Restaurant for a Private
Party where three Best of Show Awards were given:
#1. The Best Christmas Decorated Car
#2. The Best Holiday Dressed Couple
#3. Mayor Jill Hardy, presented the prestigious Mayors
Award going to the 1937 Packard Phaeton.

By Josie Rubio
Josie Rubio says..."The Great Recession may have technically
ended over five years ago, but that's probably a surprise to millions
of Americans still worrying about their budgets. A modicum of relief
is on the way in 2015, as prices fall on some popular goods and services -- including one major necessity that affects many others: gas.
From cranberry sauce to a Kia sedan, read our predictions for
items that will drop in price in the coming year. Peruse the list, then
consider also checking out what items are increasing in price in 2015
-- as well as signing up for the DealNews Select Newsletter, so you
can save money on everything else in the coming months.
Gas Prices
According to the government's Energy Information Administration, gas prices will average about $2.60 a gallon in 2015 -- even
lower than the initial November prediction of $2.94 a gallon. In eight
states, prices could even slip below $2 a gallon. If it seems to be
good to be true, consider some gas stations in Texas and Oklahoma
were already offering gas below $2 a gallon in December.
Transatlantic Flights
Though fuel prices are falling, most air travel prices are increasing.
However, the price of transatlantic flights could decrease because of
added flight capacity, according to the American Express Global
Business Travel annual forecast. Several airlines are also offering
cheap transatlantic trips, including Norwegian Airlines, which started
offering flights between London and New York City for about $255
each way in June 2014, as well as bargain flights from Los Angeles
and Fort Lauderdale. Iceland-based WOW Air recently started offering flights between the U.S. and Europe for as low as $99 each
way.

Since 2010, the top 40 cable channels have lost more than 3 million viewers because of "cord cutters" quitting cable TV, and cord
nevers, who have never paid for cable at all and instead watch shows
online. The big news in 2015 is that HBO will start to offer a streaming service for nonsubscribers in April, just in time for "Game of
Thrones." CBS also is offering a la carte on-demand TV with its
CBS All Access service.
For this reason, too, pay-TV providers are increasingly looking to
lure the "cord shaving" crowd, offering cheaper bundles with fewer
channels at low prices in the hopes that these customers will eventually upgrade. And some even say that cable bundles might be the
better deal, as a la carte TV options can add up, making cable bundles
the better deal in some cases. So weigh your options before embarking on winter binge-watching. (Check out our feature on cable-cutting myths.)

Kia Forte
The 2015 model of the Kia Forte is $10 less than last year's model,
making it cheaper than the Nissan Sentra. And if $10 in savings doesn't sound significant, keep in mind that this makes the Forte officially
the year's least expensive compact car.
Butter
Cranberries
The cranberry sauce for your Thanksgiving feast may have cost a
bit less this year, and prices may continue to drop. News of cranberry
excess surfaced as early as 2013, and to deal with the cranberry surplus -- nearly at 100 percent with 16 million barrels -- the U.S. government just purchased 680,000 barrels' worth in juice, sauce, and
dried berries for distribution in food banks and schools."

he Huffington Post | By David Freeman had his eye on this one...."The photo is the
first taken of the sun by NuSTAR and is the "most sensitive solar portrait ever taken in
high-energy X-rays," according to NASA. The green and blue portions of the image
show highly energetic X-ray emissions. The red represents ultraviolet light captured by the
Solar Dynamics Observatory, another NASA space telescope. In addition to looking pretty
spectacular, the photo may point the way to some pretty important science.
Space scientists are hopeful that by gazing at the sun, NuSTAR may be able to help explain
why the sun's outer atmosphere (corona) is so blazingly hot (1 million degrees Celsius) while
its surface is much cooler (6,000 degrees Celsius).
The key to this decades-old puzzle may be smaller versions of the colossal solar flares familiar to solar astronomers. At this point these so-called "nanoflares" are still hypothetical,
but scientists believe that they, in combination with big solar flares, may be the sources of the
corona's intense heat.
"NuSTAR will be exquisitely sensitive to the faintest X-ray activity happening in the solar
atmosphere, and that includes possible nanoflares," Dr. David Smith, a solar physicist and
member of the NuSTAR team at the University of California, Santa Cruz, said in a written
statement.
The idea of using NuSTAR to look at the sun surfaced about seven years ago, long after
the space telescope's design and construction were under way. When she first heard of the
idea, Dr. Fiona Harrison, a professor of physics and astronomy at CalTech and the mission's
principal investigator, was more than a little skeptical."
X-rays stream off the sun in this image combining data from NASA's Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array (NuSTAR) space telescope, overlaid on a photo taken by
NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO).

EarthTalk
Dear EarthTalk:
Are there still outspoken global warming deniers in Congress or
the mainstream media? If so, what
do they say when presented with scientific facts and anecdotal evidence pointing to an increasingly warming atmosphere?

News and elsewhere are vocal in their skepticism about humans (leading) role in climate change.
But regardless of how persuasive some of these pundits
might sound, the facts speak for themselves. IPCC reports
that human influence on the climate system is clear, with
greenhouse gas emissions driven largely by economic and
population growth skyrocketing to record levels and leading to atmospheric conditions unprecedented in at least the
last 800,000 years. IPCC adds that greenhouse gas emissions are extremely likely to have been the dominant
cause of the observed warming since the mid-20th century
and that warming will be a very likely catalyst for increased heat waves, extreme precipitation events, warmer
oceans and higher sea levels.

COVERAGE A MUST.
If you suffer a life-changing injury and
can't go back to work after a crash caused
by a driver without enough insurance,
your life and future can hang in the balance, says Philadelphia lawyer Dean
Weitzman. The only way you can be adequately and fairly compensated after
such an event is to have the highest
amount of UM and UIM that you can afford, he says.
There's even a way to do that without spending more
on your existing policy: Just increase your vehicle
collision deductible.
"If you're going to take a chance, take the chance
on the property damage," Weitzman wrote on the
MyPhillyLawyer.com blog. "That's better than having
the unknown risk of having life changing catastrophic
injuries and not having the money to pay for care.
COLLISION COVERAGE

It may or may not make sense for
you. Our hunk o'junk 2001 SUV

household is on its way to any
charity that might want it, most
likely for parts. We haven't paid
collision coverage on it for awhile,
but I just realized (by actually looking at my policy!) that we've been
paying what's known as comprehensive coverage, which covers
non-crash things that could happen
to my car. I don't care what happens
to this car so just saved, well, a
whopping $20 a year.
While skipping collision coverage for a car worth $3,000 or less
may seem like a smart way to save

For most Americans who read this they will only see
the numbers that the Vietnam War created. To those of
us who survived the war, and to the families of those
who did not, we see the faces, we feel the pain that these
numbers created. We are, until we too pass away,
haunted with these numbers, because they were our
friends, fathers, husbands, wives, sons and daughters.
There are no noble wars, just noble warriors.
Our apology...not every detail verifiable...but the
message us clear...lot's of Americans died!
