Attended by twenty
members of the community, the orientation provided the breakfast emcees the basics about
their role and the respon-

Breakfast Gets Special Guests

The first Breakfast of December gets a visit from special
guests:
Two couples from BCBP Molo
Iloilo, who happened to be in
Cebu, attended the Mens Breakfast. Though it was Mens but still
the ladies were welcomed. They
were inspired by the powerful
sharing of Atty Alfred Oguis, a
young lawyer working with the
Ombudsman-Visayas as graft
investigation and prosecution
officer. He is from BCBP Mandaue chapter.

explaining the presence of the
Holy Father on Twitter:
"The Pope's presence on

of his conviction that the Church
must be present in the digital

"In addition to the direct engagement with the questions,
debates and discussions of people that is facilitated by new media, the Church recognizes the

they are searching.
The first tweets from the
Pope's handle on Twitter will be
given on 12 December, Feast of
Our Lady of Guadalupe. Initially

tweets will be published with the

Wednesday general audiences,
although they may subsequently
become more frequent. The first
tweets, on 12 December, will
respond to questions put to the
Pope on matters of faith. The
public can send questions between now and 12 December .

Role of the Emcee

William Cejas

You are the star maker, not the star.

You are the grease that lubricates the flow of events of the program.

You are not there to hug the limelight or steal it from the main characters of the
event..

The role of the emcee is to facilitate the event and ensures that the program
materializes without a hitch or minimize hitches that may come up.

Responsibilities of the Emcee (remember T.I.M.)

Time

- You are in control

Introducer

- Members of the audience may or may not know the sharer as

well as you do.

Mood Setter - Your enthusiasm is extremely contagious

Some Things to do as Emcee

Be Prepared - Know the program and prepare notes if you must.
Be Early - Arriving early will give you time to settle down and observe and

analyze the crowd.

Be Proactive - As the program controller, you are in charge!
Be Enthusiastic - Your attitude is contagious! Affect the crowd with it!
Be Professional - As the emcee, you are part of the face for the event.
Handle Apologies - Understand that mistakes may and will occur from time to

time. But the audience are not there to hear you apologize.

be a reminder that He prepared the best for you today.

How Should a Christian Respond to Unanswered Prayer?

http://www.gotquestions.org

How many Christians have prayed for someone, only to see their prayers go unanswered? How many
have prayed and perhaps have given up because either they have become discouraged through a weakness of faith or have come to the sometimes presumptive conclusion that whatever they have been praying for isnt Gods will? Nevertheless, how we deal with unanswered prayer is not just for our own benefit but for the benefit of others as well. When we pray, we are engaging in the most precious and Godgiven act of communication with the One to whom we are accountable in all our affairs. We have been
truly bought at a steep pricethe blood of the Lord Jesus Christand therefore we belong to God. Our
privilege of prayer is from God, and it is as much ours now as when it was given to Israel (Deuteronomy
4:7). Yet, when we pray or speak to the One in Heaven, there are times when He seems not to answer.
There can be many reasons for this, and while it is not the intention here to list them all, the Scriptures
themselves suggest why and how our prayers are being dealt with by the One who is so tender and loving, who Himself loves our communing with God the Father, for He, Himself, is our representative
(Hebrews 4:15).
A primary reason why prayer is unanswered is sin. God cannot be mocked or deceived, and He who
sits enthroned above knows us intimately, down to our every thought (Psalm 139:1-4). If we are not
walking in the Way or we harbor enmity in our hearts toward our brother or we ask for things with the
wrong motives (such as from selfish desires), then we can expect God not to answer our prayer because
He does not hear (2 Chronicles 7:14; Deuteronomy 28:23; Psalm 66:18; James 4:3). Sin is the stopper
to all the potential blessings that we would receive from the infinite bottle of Gods mercy! If only we
would be more careful to avoid sin, we would be more worthy recipients of all the blessings and foretastes of the glory that is ours in Christ Jesus (Job 11:13-18). Indeed, there are times when our prayers
are heinous in the Lords sight, most notably when we clearly do not belong to the Lord either because of
unbelief (Proverbs 15:8) or because we are practicing hypocrisy (Mark 12:40).
Another reason why prayer seems to go unanswered is that the Lord is drawing out of our faith a
deeper reliance and trust in Him, which should bring out of us a deeper sense of gratitude, love and humility. In turn, this causes us to benefit spiritually for He gives grace to the humble (James 4:6; Proverbs
3:34). Oh, how one feels for that poor Canaanite woman, who cried out incessantly to our Lord for
mercy when He was visiting the region of Tyre and Sidon (Matthew 15:21-28). She was hardly the person
a Jewish rabbi would take note of! She was not a Jew and she was a woman, two legitimate (in their
minds) reasons for Jews to ignore her. The Lord doesnt seem to answer her petitions, but He knew all
about her situation. He may not have answered her stated needs immediately, but still He heard and
granted her request. God may often seem silent to us, but He never sends us away empty-handed. Even if
prayer has not been answered, we must rely upon God to do so in His own time. Even the exercise of
prayer is a blessing to us; it is because of our faith that we are stirred to persist in prayer, and isnt that a
rebuke to all of us? It is faith that pleases God (Hebrews 11:6), and if our prayer life is wanting, does that
not reflect our spiritual standing also? God hears our impoverished cries for mercy, and His silence inflames us with a sense of persistence in prayer. He loves us to reason with Him. For example, we do not
see many souls saved in this day of small things, but only that we would cry out, like Rachel, Give me
children or I die! (Genesis 30:1). Let us hunger for the things that are after Gods heart and let us walk in
His ways and not our own. If we are faithful to pray without ceasing, then we are living in the will of God
and that can never be wrong (1 Thessalonians 5:17-18).

By aligning your priorities with God, we have the power to succeed in whatever endeavors God
places before us. Let us trust Gods power.

The Gift and the Giver

Nery Gula

The current calamity

that badly hit Compostela Valley in Mindanao
led me to ask, Why do
great disasters like typhoons come around this
time of the year in our
country? Why in the
season, when people are
suppose to celebrate and
be merry not cry and
mourn?
When I could not find
a ready answer, I asked,
Why Lord? Are You
telling us to look deeply
into our life?
These questions made
me reflect on the value
of life and all things that

give life. That life on

earth is a temporary
journey. How the journey would end, is not
ours to tell. Our concern
is how to live this life
that will honor its giver.
In this season of
Christmas our since of
giving is heightened as
we remember how great
the Fathers love is for
us. He gave us the greatest gift, His only Son, so
that we may have life and
have it to the full.
For me, fullness of
life does not mean more
to splurge on things our
human flesh desires. It is

sharing even the little

that we have.
For me who go by a
budget, all cents are
accounted for. Experience however tells me,
that giving even if it
alters the budget, even if
it means scrimping on
other things becomes
more meaningful because it makes our heart
bleed. Yet, we give because we care. Because
we love.
In this season of giving, give to please the
Giver of all.
Merry Christmas!

Life always involves a fight, a race and a test. When things get tough, remember your identity.
You're a fighter, a finisher and a faithful conqueror.
