Former BCBP Pres. Louie Morales Gives Teaching on Worship

Worship is coming to the Lord - Louie Morales

Cebu leaders all-ears to Louie

One hundred fifty-four

leaders from seven chapters of BCBP Cebu Region attended the teaching
on Worship given by
Tatang Louie Morales.
The activity was held at
Sacred Heart Center,
Cebu City on March 30,
2012.
A beautiful and powerful worship opened the
activity. Jordan Polotan of
BCBP North was the
worship leader.
Louie described Worship as coming to the
Lord. He said, We come
to the Lord with everything that we have. He
added that in leading a
worship, the leader is only

a medium of the Lord.

He only needs to surrender to Him. To leave
oneself in Gods hand into
the power of the Holy
Spirit.
Some hindrances that
keep one from leading a
worship were also cited.
These are:
1. Fear
2. The feeling of un
worthiness.
3. Negative attitude
In parting, Louie exhorted all the leaders
present saying: Be happy
when you worship the
Lord.

Dont ever miss the chances that life is giving you to spend quality time with the people you love.
Remember, in life, there are no rewinds.

Please take note of the following so that you may not appear out of place:
FRIDAY (APRIL 13):

-which will be included in the Kit. Each Area will have a distinctive color.
Designed for easy identification by Area.
SATURDAY BREAKFAST(APRIL 14):

women.

Sacrament of Reconciliation: Sacrament of
Forgiveness
Fr. Martin Okafor-Ilozue CSSp - BCBP Mactan BCLP19

Fr. Martin

The obedience and

humility of going to
the priest for confession is more effective
than the arrogance of
going straight to
Christ as most people claim they do.

What is confession?
The Sacrament of Confession is a stroke of divine ingenuity and our response to
the unfathomable mystery of evil. It is traditionally a sacrament, a divine grace being
imparted on those who seek it. By divine ingenuity, it means that the Sacrament of
Confession was designed by God for our use. In the scripture, the Pharisees said to
Jesus, only God can forgive sins. Jesus confirmed the fact and forgave the sin of the
paralytic in order to show that He is God. But in the end He handed over the
power to forgive to the apostles/church- the sins you have forgiven on earth, it will
be forgiven in heaven and what you left un-forgiven on earth are also not forgiven in
heaven.
The presence of evil in our lives.
Due to our human weakness and limitations we fall into sin again and again
which is amazing. After all the promise not to sin again, we find ourselves in the
same situation again once the opportunity is presented. What is at work here is the
mystery of evil in us that wages war with the divine goodness in us. This goodness
we received after our baptism, which should represent a strong weapon and healing
remedy that is continued in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Here, the act of confession helps us to rise again after we have succumbed to
sin. But as in most cases, the glitter of sin is more attractive than the discipline of
the sacrament, which requires that we loathe our sins and radically change our
ways. This is where the problem comes, we became discouraged by the frequent
fall into the same error and some people begin to challenge the need and effectiveness of the Sacrament of Confession and stayed away from it. The devil would have
succeeded again as he did with Eve, and pride sets in. In order to justify ones staying away from confession, we begin to question the role of the Priest in confession
and if he has the power to forgive sins and that the priest has his own sins too. The
obligation to confess serious sins to a priest caused this sacrament to be called
confession.
There was never any part in the scripture that does not recognize the sinfulness
of the priests, but will always point out that they offer the sacrifice first and foremost for their own sins and those of the community. The fact that this power came
from Jesus himself makes it more real that God sanctions the use of mere human
being to bring about forgiveness of sins.
The effect of Confession to those who use it faithfully.
With confession, we will learn how to master our sins by being converted in a
life-long struggle against the mystery of evil. The obedience and humility of going to
the priest for confession is more effective than the arrogance of going straight to
Christ as most people claim they do. Getting a spiritual counseling in confessional
is more important than believing we have talked to Christ in our hearts alone and

in most cases without reading any of His words. Yet suffice it to say that going to
Christ direct is a prerequisite to humble submission of ourselves to the priest as
the legitimate authority to bring about the forgiveness of sin on earth. The presence
of the priest helps us to recollect the wrong we did and make us humble. The advices will always be there as the guiding light to fight against falling again to the same
sin. In confessing, we avail of the grace of the sacrament, this grace is responsible
for strength to change our ways and to persevere in doing what is good.
When we kneel before the priest and do the sign of the cross saying, forgive
me father for I have sinned. What a humble way back to God, like the prodigal son
in the gospel of Luke (15: 11-24), and how sweet and how light our heart feel when
we hear those words, and I absolve you from your sins. With these words
no doubt we knew that we are forgiven through the assurance of the words of the
priest and the mystery of the Church, all made possible by the Son of God who
gave us the gift of himself to be the mediator between God and humanity.
The absolution prayer by the priest at the end of the confession.
God the Father of mercies, through the death and resurrection of His Son has
reconciled the world to Himself and sent the Holy Spirit among us for the forgiveness of sins; through the ministry of the Church may God grant you pardon and
peace and I absolve you from your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Triduum

What is the meaning of the word Triduum?
The word Triduum means three days.
What are the days of the Holy Triduum?
Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday.
What is Holy Triduum?

The Triduum is the celebration of the three holiest days in the liturgical year.
The Triduum is the climax of the Holy Week.
The entire season of Lent is a preparation for these three days.
Why is the Holy Triduum so important?

Making a Difference

Nery Gula

Realizing that life is

short and thus to be live
in its fullness, made me
question, Have I
touched the lives of
others?
As I reflected, I remember the many times
God gave me a pat on
the back. Like He is
telling me, Yes, you
did.
Two weeks ago, a
Kuya invited us to the
graduation party of her
very talented girl. He
told me that I gave him
the inspiration to send
her girl to one of the

best schools in Cebu. I

could not even remember
when that happened.
A priest friend, once
our neighbor and office
mate, shared during his
homily that we were the
reason he became a priest.
I could not help but shed
tears. I also could not remember how we did it.
But he related the details
to the assembly present
during the Mass.
In a leaders retreat we
attended last February, a
promising leader of our
community also shared
that he is inspired by the
spirituality he sees in us.

I am writing about this

to proclaim that on our
own effort we cannot do
it. It is in living our ordinary lives according to
Gods truth that our light
will shine.
May our light shine
gloriously as we walk
with Jesus and reflect on
His redeeming love for us
through His death and
Resurrection.
Happy Easter!

Former BCBP Pres. Louie Morales Shares in the Regional Breakfast

Casino Espaol was

filled to overflowing during the Regional Breakfast
held on March 31, 2012.
Former National President Louie Morales, the
sharer, was introduced by
RCD Boy Villanueva.
Three first timers
from Mandaue chapter
were acknowledged during the breakfast.
Before his sharing
proper, Bro. Louie narrated how BCBP Cebu
was born and that the first
guest of the breakfast in
Cebu was His Eminence
Ricardo Cardinal Vidal.
Brother Louie power-

fully shared how God

touched his life as he focused his sharing using 1Jn
3:1 Think of the love I
have for you by calling you
my child. Many were
touched especially on the
father and son encounter
that was the turning point
of Bro. Louies life.
Brother Louie also campaigned for NAC32. He
announced that during his
audience with Bishop Jose
S. Palma, the Archbishop of
Cebu, the bishop confirmed his attendance to
NAC32 in Manila.

The venue filled beyond its sitting capacity!
