Typhoon Pablo was reported to be the strongest and deadliest tropical cyclone to hit the Philippines in
2012. Strong winds and rushing floodwaters struck the Compostela Valley and eastern Davao in Mindanao on December 4-8. BCBP Davao East and West Chapters moved swiftly, mobilizing and soliciting
local and national resources for relief social action. For its part, BCBP National Office early on released
P450,000 to BCBP Davao Chapters. BCBP Davao volunteers readied truckloads of blankets and mosquito
nets, rice and noodles, medicines and vitamins, and other essential goods for distribution. Below is a
master list of donors and donations from BCBP Chapters and members deposited to the BCBP Calamity
Fund (National Office) primarily intended for Typhoon Pablo relief social action.

The Role of Leaders Wife

Nery Gula - BCBP Mactan

Proverbs 31 : 10-31

Support your husbands headship in the family (Eph. 5:22)

Final decision is his; let him make it he is the one accountable

Work toward one mind

Give input and learn to disagree in a helpful way. Passivity is not support.
Speak positively to and about your husband.

Nery Gula

Role of Leaders Wife

Responsible for developing and enriching sisterly relationships among

the wives.

Provides good order in discussions/ sharings of the wives during meetings.

Sees to it that all wives are fully integrated into the action group and in
the BCBP.

Does not exercise headship over the wives whose heads are their husbands.

Provides support and healthy feedback to her husband (in private) on

his leadership and important issues regarding their members.

Does not dominate meetings or upstage her husband.

Should expect to be consulted by her husband on decisions regarding

their group members, schedules, and accepting service.

What makes us human is not our mind but our heart. Not our ability to think, but our ability to
love. May your kind heart touch everyone with love everyday.

Spiritans Meal-For-A-Cause
Fr. Martin Okafor-Ilozue CSSp - BCBP Mactan BCLP19

Fr. Martin

On the 20th of December, 2012, the Spiritan Catholic Center Foundation for the
first time organized a meal for a cause in Lapulapu City and with the venue at Kaishu
Seafood Japanese Restaurant. Since it was the first time no one really knew how the
event would be or how many people that would turn up for the dinner. Kaishu Restaurant is a cozy place located in Punta Engano, some 100 metres right after Moven
Pick Hotel.
The evening started quietly and thank God there was a light rain that cooled the
day, the Children of the Center were first to arrive, they would serenade the night
with Christmas carol and opening dance (doxology). They were so excited coming
from a poor neighbourhood and being in a 5 star restaurant, but well behaved, unlike
most children of their age. This shows the principle of living and good manners they
were being taught at the Center.
Little by little the visitors started to trickle in, by the time the house was full, it
was clear who the visitors were, mostly the members of the BCBP, doctors and family from Mactan Doctors Hospital, friends and staff of the owner of the establishment
and some other friends of the Director of the Center. In all there were about 52
paying guests for the night and all ate the delicious Japanese cuisine.
The aim of the meal was to raise money for the running of the Spiritan Catholic
Center foundation, a charity organization founded by the Congregation of the Holy
Spirit in Barangay T. Padilla Cebu City. The center among other things, help less privileged children to stay in school until they finish basic education. We provide them
with, school supplies, shoes, bags, school uniforms and fees. They all study in public
school, as members of the Center, they go to the center to use the computers for
their school works, study and attend tutorials being offered in the center and on Sundays attend catechism classes and other spiritual activities.
It costs about 3,000 pesos to help the parents of these children to make sure that
their kids go to school and it will be a noble thing to help and support these children,
so far the center have been able to send 161 students to school in 3 academic years
(2009). The more sponsors we get the more children we would be able to help. Do
support us in making their dream a reality and help them to be ready to face the reality of life in our world.
I want to use this opportunity to thank the members of BCBP who took this event
as one the activities of the brotherhood, if not because of them the more than 35,000
pesos raised would not have materialised. May God bless you all and your family.

What makes us human is not our mind but our heart. Not our ability to think, but our
ability to love. May your kind heart touch everyone with love today.

Gods Sustaining Grace

Nery Gula

Welcoming 2013 with a simple and

joyful celebration, we were filled with
hope for an exciting year ahead of us.
However on January 2, Marie, our
third girl was down with fever. The
next day JM, our boy, had it too. Two
days later Maries fever was gone but
was recurring for three days. JM, however, got more sick. Whatever he
takes in, goes out. Fearing dehydration,
we had him admitted on the evening of
January 4, the first Friday of the year. I
missed the Holy mass and the recommitment.
Tests taken the following day confirmed JM had the dreaded dengue
fever. As if it were not enough, two of
my other girls had rashes all over their
body. There were only three of us
who were not sick. That left me and

Jun to take care of JM. I was on day

shift while Jun took the night shift.
Alyssa took care of those left at home.
As JMs platelet count went down
and down further my prayers intensified. I was so scared. It was only when
I surrendered to God and said, Lord,
your will be done, did I find peace.
Indeed it was Gods sustaining grace
wrought by the prayers offered by
brothers and sisters in the community,
relatives and friends that kept JM well.
Even at 13K platelet count with nose
already bleeding, his vital signs were
okay and did not need blood transfusion. JM was out of the hospital after
seven days of confinement.
Only an awesome and loving
God can do such wonders.

A beautiful world can only be seen thru the eyes of a happy heart. Always have a happy
heart to see the beauty God made especially for you.

God does not judge your prayers by its length nor by its volume, but He does look at the
heart behind the words.
