4.6 Configuring Compressor and Performance

Map Plots
You can use the Performance Display Package map plots to display
compressor maps as well as other types of map plots. The
configuration consists of two main operations: Configuring the
maps (the compressor or performance curves), and configuring the
Compressor Map plots and Performance Map Plots.

4.6.1 Map Manager Tool

1. To configure the maps, start System 1 Display. On the Tools
menu, click Map Manager from the Display menu.

2. To delete or edit a map, select a map and press the

appropriate button. To add a new compressor map, press
the Add Map button. Enter name, X-Y units, and description
(optional).

38

Section 4 - Configuration

3. Select the Curve Configuration tab and add the curve data
to the XYi Points page (or one of the other pages if they fit
with your particular data entry format). In the XYi-Points
page, each Y column with data must have a name (first row),
every X value must have at least one corresponding Y value,
and every Y value must have a corresponding X value. To
add more rows, right-click in the row label column (first
column) and select Add Row. The grid supports cut, copy,
paste and delete for single- and multiple-cell selections.
When you are finished entering the map information, click
OK.

4. In the Map Manager dialog box, click OK to save the

information.

4.6.2 Map Plot Configuration

The Compressor Map plot and the Performance Map plot are very
similar to each other. The example below shows the creation of a
Compressor Map plot and notes the differences.
To create a Compressor Map plot group, select the Compressor
Map icon

from the tool bar.

1. Start System 1 Display and create a new Plot Group.

2. To create a Performance Map plot group, select the
Performance Map icon

from the tool bar.

3. Expand the points in the Instrument Hierarchy. Drag the

point variables from the Instrument Hierarchy onto the plot
tree in the Plot Group. The first point variable that you drag
onto the plot tree is the X variable, and the second point
variable that you drag onto the plot tree will be the first Y
variable. For the Compressor Map plot, the next variable
that you drag onto the plot tree will be the second Y
variable, while for the Performance Map plot the next
variable that you drag onto the plot tree will be the second X
variable. Each Compressor Map plot can have one X
variable and six Y variables. Each Performance Map plot can
have six X variables and six Y variables.

4. Select the plot in the plot group tree and press the
Configure Plot button. Clear the Use Plot Session Date
Range check box. Select Current Values, Transient Data, or
Historical Data.

5. Select the Appearance tab, click the Advanced Options
button, and choose the colors, Axis text, and Fonts for the
plot.

6. Select the Compressor Map or Performance Map tab.

Select the desired map and configure the colors, line style,
and label visibility for the individual curves. The units of the
map must match the units of the plot being configured. The
option to show maps with different units is for
troubleshooting purposes only. Click OK to accept the Plot
Configuration settings.

42

Section 4 - Configuration
7. Select a curve in the Plot Group Configuration dialog. Click
the Configure Curve button.

8. Use the Curve Configuration dialog to configure the color,

shape, and line style for the curve. The System 1 software
will display the shape when you view current values and use
the selected line style for the curve when using historical
and transient data. Click OK to accept the curve
configuration.
9. Repeat the curve configuration for each curve in the plot.
10. Click the OK or Apply button in the Plot Group Configuration
dialog to display the Map plot.

4.7 Configuring an EGT plot

You can use the Performance Display Package EGT plots to display
exhaust gas temperature and exhaust gas temperature spread
information.
1. Start System 1 Display and select the EGT icon
tool bar to create a new EGT plot group.

from the

2. Expand the points in the Instrument hierarchy or Enterprise

hierarchy and drag the temperature point variables from
the expanded Hierarchy onto the plot tree in the Plot Group
dialog. You can configure the software to plot up to 100
temperature variables for each EGT plot. The order of the
temperature values is important. The curve numbers will
correspond directly to the thermocouple numbers in the
plot.

3. Select EGT Plot in the plot group tree and click the Configure
Plot button. The initial release of the EGT plot supports only
current values.

6. Select the Thermocouples tab. You may modify the
thermocouple angles individually, or modify them all at once
by clicking the Update and Evenly Space button. This will
update and evenly space the angles, starting at the offset
angle and going in the direction specified. Click OK to accept
the Plot Configuration settings.

7. Click the OK or Apply button in the Plot Group Configuration

dialog to display the EGT plot.

5.2 Displaying Performance Data

You can view and display performance data from Bently
PERFORMANCE SE software on the System 1 Display software.
System 1 Display offers several display formats, including Bar
graphs, Trend plots, XY plots, Compressor Map plots, Performance
Map plots, EGT plots, and Machine Train diagrams.

Warning
Although Microsoft Excel 2003, 2007,
or 2010 is installed for each Bently
PERFORMANCE SE system, you should
not run Excel for spreadsheet use or to
view the Bently PERFORMANCE SE
configuration file to monitor
performance calculations. Improperly
opening and closing Excel files can
adversely affect the Bently
PERFORMANCE SE configuration and
proper system operation.
