Effect of Material Motion Closing Materials Against

Pedestrian Comfort In Tourism Area Center in Manado. (Under the guidance of

SUMMARY
Manado city as a tourist and trade services city, require a convenient
pedestrian facilities that comfortable for tourists and residents. The facts show that in
the central part of the city of Manado there are two problems, there are pedestrian
paths that unsafe and uncomfortable. The design of pedestrian pathways material that
is more comfortable and safe for pedestrians to be applied in the center of the city of
Manado. The purpose of this study was to determine the physical condition of the
pedestrian path in tourist area of downtown Manado. Determine the response from
the users of pedestrian the quality of surface materials pedestrian lane in the center of
the city of Manado.
This study uses a mixture of qualitative and quantitative way. In the early
stages, qualitative methods performed to obtain the perception of a character or
physical impression on the surface of the pedestrian path that affects the comfort of
pedestrian movement, the physical form of visual data covering materials pedestrian
paths that will be examined are: shape, dimensions, color and texture. Quantitative
methods in terms of data processing is using a scoring index, frequency tables and
cross tables from a population of 3,000 people with an error level of 10% of the 248
samples, in order to obtain statistical validity of a number of alternative circulated
opinion represented in the sample. Sample of 248 people divided into groups of the
general population (40%), student groups and students (40%) and a group of expert
observers (20%). The time distribution of questionnaires carried out only in the
morning until late afternoon from 9.00 s / d 18:00, every 15 minutes on Monday,
Wednesday and Saturday. Election Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, with
consideration of pedestrian use intensity is high enough in a week.
The results show the relationship between the surface characteristics of
pedestrian and the resulting risk of interference turns out there are four characters

pedestrian surfaces that affect satisfaction or comfort of pedestrians on pedestrian

movement in the area of study. The four characters are: form, textures, colors, and
dimensions. Overall in the study area succeeded in identifying a number of points and
lines that cause disruption comfortable motion, so that the impression is not satisfied
for the users, the level of satisfaction of becoming successful in the identification of
four scales, including the scale is not satisfied, less satisfied, somewhat satisfied,
satisfied, associated motion comfort to the indicators related to the physical
characteristics of pedestrian surfaces. The results generally indicate that the level of
satisfaction or comfort scale of motion for each physical character and in all lanes,
indicating the numbers in the range between 2 (not satisfied) and 3 (somewhat
satisfied). If we scrutinize further, it does seem reasonable, because in all pedestrian
paths in the study area, there are always a number of points that cause respondents to
feel less satisfied with pedestrian movement disorders such as slippery, and high
steps.
From this study it can be concluded that the seven lines in central object of
study identified the presence of four physical character of surface pedestrian
pathways that interfere with pedestrians or satisfaction, namely: shape, dimensions,
color, and texture. The statistical testing of client perceptions pedestrian path in the
location of the object of study to four physical characteristics (shape, dimensions,
color and texture), shows that the average on the seventh track, the perception among
road users tend to taste somewhat satisfied and less satisfied . The perception, evenly
on all four physical characteristics of the surface of the pedestrian path. Thus, in order
to repair or improvement of the quality of the architectural design of the pedestrian
path or footpath in the study area, it is necessary to evenly attention on aspects of
form, dimensions, color and texture. It is advisable to seven locations should research
uses the object covering material that meets the standards in accordance with the
physical condition of the field, where users pedestrians feel comfortable and safe.
