Switch to option From Saved to ensure saved buses are showing in the list (In this
example BUS 1, PPC3, G1).
Switch back to From current Page and the buses selected from the drawings will
be displayed (In this example buses A4P, A7P, A8P, BUS 1, ).
Add buses from All Filtered Buses list (In this example A3CP, A4P, BUS 1, PPC3, G1)
and click Save button.
Switch to option From Saved and notice the buses in the list stay the same.
9
Switch back to From current Page and the buses selected from the drawings
are back on the list (In this example BUS 1, PPC3, G1).
Switch to option From Saved again, click OK to go back to the drawing and you
will see the nodes A3CP, A4P are selected besides BUS 1, PPC3, G1.

1) Increase the Arc flash limitation limit on looking for upstream protection devices
The maximum fault contribution levels will be available for users to set. Its default value is 10
and can be increased up to 20 branches in upstream circuit. The user can set this value
based on his protection strategy and size of the network and the calculation speed on the
computer. This will update short circuit and PDC studies for contribution levels
automatically. This setting means every bus/equipment should be protected by a device in
at most 20 levels up branches.

3) Arc flash labels should always present System Voltage rather than Load Flow voltage
when the SC Calculated by LF pre-fault voltage
When the Short Circuit Calculation uses Power Flow Voltage as pre-fault voltage, then
all calculations will be based on Load flow voltage as a pre-fault and the Arc-Flash
Engine would also use this voltage which might be different from system voltage. To keep
the system data consistent, Arc-Flash labels should present System Voltage rather than
what the user considered in SC calculations. Labels are always present in System Voltage
but Arc-Flash report still will show LF voltage as a pre-fault voltage.

Modelling in DesignBase:
37
Restricted to Power Analytics Partners | Do Not Distribute
As shown in the drawing OCC-4WI is an inverter with two components connected to the
DC and AC networks separately. The inverters DC Component which is connected to
the DC side should be dragged and dropped from the DC catalog.
38

The bi-directional model includes two different modes: a rectifier mode and an inverter
mode. Each mode is modeled by different components for AC and DC sides separately
and should be activated individually by defining the two different scenarios.
The inverter mode includes the same components which are described above by using
the same name for both components. (in this example the AC Source and it is
deactivated in the current scenario were used)
In the rectifier mode the DC side is modeled with a DC Source (rectifier) and the AC side
is modeled with an AC load which can be dragged from AC catalog by looking for
Rectifier Symbol. Both components should have the same name. ( This example used DC
Source).
The AC component is a Bus for Short Circuit Studies. For load flow study its kvar should be
39

The DC component is also set as a DC Source on the DC Side and can be dragged from
the DC catalog by looking for the DC source.
For Short Circuit Studies, its SC Current can be limited and is estimated by AC impedance
from the Rated Parameters per IEC61660 standard. For load flow standards the DC
Control should be set either to Current Control or Voltage Control and by using the
same name as the AC side Rectifier Load it can pass the control parameters to the AC
side.

- DC-DC Converter
As shown in the drawing OCC-DCDC is a DC converter with two components connected
with LV=120 V and HV=240V sides.
A DC-DC converter can be dragged from the DC catalog. There is no meaningful data
for the branch since the two voltage networks are isolated from each other in the real
world.
41

The HV Source can be dragged just by selecting a DC Source from the DC catalog. Its
Short Circuit Current can be limited by using an estimation of AC impedance from the
Rated Parameters per IEC61660 standard. For the load flow it should be set to DC
Current Control with zero Amps in order to pass the control from LV to HV
Select Current Control and set Order =0 to transfer the power from LV side.
