James
Elementary Education Major with a Minor in Mathematics Education

PROFILE
I am Jameelah T. J. James, an Elementary Education Major with a Minor in
Mathematics Education at the University of Central Florida (UCF). I am
seeking your financial assistance which will allow me to take part in a
Bilingual Teaching Experience program which I was selected to go to
Castilla y Leon, Spain.
I graduated with a GPA of 3.7 in 2011 from Hallandale High School Magna
Cum Laude with an Associate in Arts (AA) from Broward College, through
Dual Enrollment, at UCF. I have been able to maintain my excellent
academic abilities, with a current GPA of 3.4 and have been making the
Deans List consistently since 2013. While at UCF, to gain hands on
experience, I interned at Stone Lake Elementary under 1st Grade teacher
Ms. Angela Winemiller and 3rd Grade teachers Ms. Teal Zambri and Ms. Carol Brock
Apart from academia, I partook in extra-curricular activities such as: National Honor Society, Future
Educators Association, Urban Teaching Academy Program, Hallandale Marching Chargers Auxiliary
Team Member, Secretary of Future Educators Association, dancer with Kingdom Movement Dance
Ministry and a volunteer for Good News Club at Union Park Elementary.
This University of Central Floridas study abroad bilingual teaching experience in Castilla y Leon, Spain,
is set to commence on January 22, 2015 with an expected duration of three (3) months, while in
Spain, I will be the English Teacher in a Spanish Elementary school. Having always had a passion for
education in another country and being intrigued by the knowledge of different cultures and customs,
this is the perfect opportunity along my career path. After I graduate college; I plan on joining the
Peace Corps so that I may continue to follow my dream.
It is expected that I will gain invaluable overseas teaching experience, which will also help me become
a better educator, since it places me in the same type of learning environment many non-English
speaking students are exposed to, where they are challenged not only to learn and understand the
language of their placement but they must also comprehend the content of what is being taught.
Similarly, me not being bi-lingual will face similar challenges, this experience will allow me to
empathize as to what these students go through, while also giving me a sense of compassion, enough
that I would always try to find a way for them to understand the culture, the language and the
content of what is being taught.
In order for me to participate in this program, I am seeking to raise $7,000.00USD to assisting in
defraying some of my expenses, should you require any additional information or to make a
contribution feel free to contact me at james.jameelah@knights.ucf.edu or 1.954.861.8981, you can
